It’s the school holidays! I can hear parents all over Hull cheering in excitement having only just sent their kids back to school!
Well do not worry my friend, this time there’s no home-schooling AND restrictions have eased up ever so slightly meaning we can travel that little bit further. There might not seem much to do still, but we’ve got some great ideas of things you CAN do this Easter Holiday around our great city. Check ’em out!
East Park
It’s Hull’s largest park and certainly beats an afternoon stuck in your local area. East Park off Holderness Road in the east side of the city, normally has loads of fun stuff, but sadly it’s restricted a bit now. However, you can still go feed the ducks, enjoy the large playground which has recently had a big refurb, play around on the large open fields, and there’s even an Easter Egg Trail around the outside of the zoo (as it’s currently closed).
Pickering Park
Similar to East Park but in the west of Hull, Pickering park has a wildlife pond and ornamental gardens available to see, while there’s plenty of open space to have some fun. There’s also a fishing lake which is still open.
The Beach
One of the best bits about living in East Yorkshire, is that a great beach isn’t far away! And now that the stay home restriction has been lifted, a day trip is on the cards. So go grab your bucket and spade, and check out the incredible beaches you can go to along the East Coast.
Hessle Foreshore & Humber Bridge Park
Humber Bridge Park has a great woodland trail to explore, and eventually brings you out at the Hessle Foreshore with a playground and the pebble beach to enjoy.
Country Walks
Another great thing about East Yorkshire, is the vast beautiful countryside. So grab your boots and check out this list of the prettiest countryside walks around East Yorkshire.
Outdoor sports courts
The new rules say that you can exercise outdoors in a group of 6 or a larger group of any size from up to 2 households (including their support bubbles, if eligible). Many outdoor 5-a-side pitches are now open and available for hire, such as Active+ in west Hull.
Sewerby Hall
East Yorkshire has a number of old country manors and estates that have been acquired and turned into visitor attractions. During lockdown they’ve had to close, but are allowed to reopen their outdoor areas.
Sewerby Hall in Bridlington is one such place you’ll love. The gardens are open to explore, there’s plenty of open green space and the cafe is open for take-away. There’s also a play area and the toilets are open for use.
Sledmere House
Similar to Sewerby Hall, Sledmere House near Driffield is another country estate worth exploring. Open spaces, beautiful gardens and an adventure playground are all open.
Powerboat Trips on the Humber
Ok so this one’s a little different but one you’ll love if you have the money available. £120 will allow you to hire a private speedboat tour of the Humber from Ultramarine Powerboat Services. You’ll get to take in the Humber Bridge, shores and Hull city centre from a totally new perspective.
Beverley Easter Trails
Beverley Minster Primary PTFA have put together an Easter Trail around Beverley. It is a fun trail than runs until the 10th April, and involves mixture of photos and questions as you walk around Beverley. You can download a map by making a £3 donation here. All proceeds will go to Beverley Minster Primary School.
Latimer Church on Grovehill Road in Beverley are also running a trail from Good Friday until Easter Monday. Their trail is free and you can download their map from their website soon.
Hull Museums Home Activities & Online Events
Hull Museums have kindly put together some activity packs and an online educational video series for young ones during the Easter break. So if it’s a bit of a grey day, you can always pop something their YouTube channel on for something a bit different to their tablet or Netflix.
Golf, Mini-Golf and Footgolf
If you think your child might fancy a new sport / leisure activity to take up, Cottingham Parks are running ‘Get Into Golf’ sessions this Easter holiday. All the info including session times on Hull & East Riding Mumbler.
If it’s more for just a bit of fun, One Stop Golf on National Avenue are back open with their driving range, Footgolf and their Pirate Adventure Mini Golf!
Garden Games
If you’ve run out of things to do, or just fancy a day a bit closer to home, there’s always garden games… a great investment right now as they’ll last all summer, and with family and friends now about to hang around in our gardens, the kids will always have something fun to do.
