Whilst I admit the weather this past bank holiday weekend was a bit disappointing, outdoor dining in (and around) Hull has been an absolute pleasure. No longer must I subject my partner to my subpar cooking, and it makes for a great way to catch up with people outside of my bubble.
So many local eateries have taken the opportunity to make some amazing outdoor spaces so we can enjoy a fantastic, restaurant quality meal; here’s some we think you should check out this May.
Meze Bar & Grill
31 Cottingham Rd, Hull HU5 2PP
Meze is an amazing restaurant down Cottingham Road that specialises in a range of Turkish and Greek Mediterranean dishes.
Their menu is stuffed to the brim with classic Mediterranean main dishes such as Moussaka as well as some meze favourites.
Their chefs source all ingredients locally and prepare delicious dishes from scratch every day with a selection of meat, chicken, fish, vegetables and crisp stoned pizzas.
The area out front means Meze can fit in a lot tables, making it perfect for outdoor dining. I recently visited Meze for outdoor dining and had an amazing time; great food and drink for a very reasonable price.
Kings
50 Market Place, Hull HU1 1RT
You may recognise this spot as the former King Billy pub in Hull’s old town, however these days it just goes by Kings.
Kings have quite the trendy beer garden which is packed with spacious tables, as well as some cover if some unsavoury weather rolls by.
Pizza, poutine & Chip Spice chips are on offer to those hungry, and from the 14th of May, Hull Pie will be taking over their kitchen!
Alongside all that, Kings have a wide selection of draught beers & Guinness, 2 for £10 cocktails, and regular live DJs; what more could you want?
Brunch Club
39 Skillings Ln, Brough HU15 1BA
This cosy restaurant in Brough is the perfect place to get some brunch – if that wasn’t already obvious from the name.
They’ve got a fantastic menu which gives you many ways to brunch. There’s Full English breakfasts (and veggie substitutes), as well as poached eggs, waffles & pancakes, and breakfast sandwiches. For those on the other side of the portmanteau, there’s burgers and a fried chicken Caesar salad.
The Brunch Club is currently operating from Thursday to Sunday for outdoor dining and collection, but are also taking indoor bookings for May 17th.
Humber Dock Bar
9 Humber Dock St, Hull HU1 1TB
Overlooking Hull’s beautiful marina is Humber Dock Bar and Grill, which is a fantastic pub for outdoor dining.
The bar offers a range of draught lager including Madri, Peroni, Hop House, and Pravha, as well as an absolute shed loads of spirits and cocktails.
To soak up all the drink, Humber Dock offers a nice range of burgers and pizzas, and pub classics such as battered fish & chips.
If you want to have a nice drink in the sun with a beautiful view, Humber Dock is for you.
The Barista
141 Newland Ave, Hull HU5 2ER
This vibrant, independent café down Newland Avenue is back open for outdoor dining and is definitely somewhere to consider if you fancy great speciality coffee as well as amazing brunch.
From the classic no frills full English breakfast to Bokkeumbap, The Barista serves up some fantastic breakfast & lunch food from across the globe, including my personal favourite: Mexican eggs.
Coffee from The Barista is some of the best in the city, plus they have a fantastic cocktails menu, as well as a fine selection of beers and wine if you fancy a drink.
