Even with the recent lockdown news from the government, there are still some amazing opportunities to go and enjoy yourself in a “socially distanced” environment and listen to live music.

Here are 10 Alternative music events happening in Hull over July and August.

1. Jelly

Welly, Beverley Road | Every Thursday from 29th July (Doors open from 10:30pm)

Welly is back, and they are back with one their most popular weekly nights of indie/alternative music. DJ SAMV is playing the best of the best when it comes to indie tracks.

You can expect bands such as, The 1975, Slaves, The Bohicas, Jamie T, Wolf Alice, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Catfish and The Bottleman, Royal Blood, Everything Everything, CHVRCHES, Foals, Circa Waves, VANT, Swim Deep, The Wombats + More.

2. YO-YO indie night

Welly, Beverley Road | Every Saturday from 31st July (Doors open from 11pm)

The welly clubs legendary indie club night returns with the reunion of DJ’s ANDYOYO and DJ PRUYA, to bring you the greatest ever indie classics to grace the dance floor in the form of a amazing live DJ set.

you can expect bands such as, The Smiths (Andy Rourke & Mike Joyce), Carl Barat, Foals, The Cribs, The View, The Bluetones, Babyshambles, The Long Blondes, Dirty Pretty Things, Little Boots, The Young Knives, The Paddingtons, The Holloways, The Enemy, The Rumble Strips, Shed 7, The Maccabees, The Rakes & Art Brut.

3. 9teen9tees Indie Tribute Night

O’Riley’s, Beverley Road | Friday 13th August (starts at 8pm)

Hulls own indie tribute band, 9teen9tees, return to O’Riley’s for a jam-packed 90’s Indie/BritPop cover night that will be sure to appeal to everyone who loves bands such as Oasis, Blur and Pulp etc…

4. Funkywormhole Sound System Presents: Reggae Night

Adelphi, De Grey St | Thursday 1st July (8pm till closing time)

Funkywormhole sound system return to Adelphi with a 100% vinyl only night of classic reggae and dub tunes that will be more than enough for any avid reggae fan, brought to you by DJ’s Dr Kitch and JP.

5. Ulltra Festival 2021

Adelphi, De Grey St | Sunday 29th August (Starts at 7pm)

SoundSphere magazine and BUD HERON have combined the best bands that Hull have to offer with ace bands from across the country in what looks like an amazing festival full of heavy riffs and creative melodies that you will not want to miss at all.

The club have said they may have to operate at a reduced capacity if told of, don’t delay and grab a ticket as soon as possible here.

6. The Guru Guru + Support (Adelphi)

Adephi, De Grey St | Thursday 12th August (starts at 7pm)

The Adelphi is in for a awesome night of alternative rock in collaboration with SoundSphere magazine, who are presenting Guru Guru headlining with support from St Pierre Snake Invasion and BedSit. Any fans of rock and alt-rock aren’t going to want to miss this one, at all.

7. Ferocious Dog + Holy Moly and the Crackers

Cottingham Civic Hall | Saturday 28th August (starts at 7pm)

Billed as the UK’s most exciting folk punk band, Ferocious Dog blend the sounds of punk with folk and reggae influences to create a huge variety of amazing melodies and creative songs that showcase folk punk for what it should be, The band are playing as part of the Cottingham Folk Festival and will be supported by Holy Moly and the Crackers, another folk rock band from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

8. Terrorvision + Black Water County

Cottingham Civic Hall | Thursday 26th August (Starts at 7pm)

Forming in 1988, Terrorvision found fame in 1990’s with a string of singles including “Oblivion”, “Middleman”, “Pretend Best Friend” as well as their smash hit, “Tequila”, which they are best known for. This group of pop rockers re-unite in 2021 to make their Cottingham debut at the Folk Festival with a shameless live rock show. Terrorvision will be supported by Black Water County, a Celtic/Folk punk band from Bournemouth.
