An adopted Hullensian’s guide to: Kingswood – The Hull suburb with everything on its doorstep

As an out-of-towner, Kingswood fascinates me because of its relatively young age; I cannot quite get my head around the fact that up until around 1995, there was nothing much there except for low-lying agricultural land.

Interestingly, I recently had a conversation with an elderly chap who talked at length about the changes he had seen in our fair city’s anatomy during his lifetime, and I was flabbergasted at the transformation he described in Kingswood—fascinating!

During my time here, I am happy to report that I have made many fond memories in Kingswood, as well as one not-so-good one (here, I refer to the time I watched The Snowman at the cinema—it is a terrible film!) and sincerely, hope that said affection rubs off in this guide to Kingswood.

Food and Drink

Kingswood Leisure & Retail Park has a great range of different restaurants where you’ll find almost anything you fancy eating that night.

Probably the most prestigious brand on the park is the Gino D’Acampo restaurant which serves his loving take on Italian cuisine and I, having dined here last November, can vouch for its quality.

One of my other favourites on the Park is Tribal Bar & Grill, which is a spacious sports bar and casual restaurant, which is a joint venture by Hull KR and Hull FC owners Neil Nudgell and Adam Pearson. Tribal serves casual food which includes the usual spread of bar snacks, burgers, loaded fries, and sides as well as a wide-ranging drinks menu.

The latest addition to Kingswood is Beleza Rodizio Restaurant, an authentic Brazilian steakhouse where the customer is invited to consume an all-you-can-eat menu and indulge in a self-service salad bar and traditional Brazilian and South American cocktails.

Alongside the aforementioned, there is the usual suite of chain restaurants such as Greggs; McDonald’s; Subway; Beefeater; KFC; Pizza Hut; and Nandos.

Happily, as of 2020, Papas Fish and Chips have operated a restaurant and the country’s first fish and chips drive-through in the Park too!

And just recently announced, the old Frankie & Benny’s unit will now become a Taco Bell & Dunkin’ Donuts.

Shopping

With a retail park smack bang in the middle of its urban topography, Kingswood is not short of shopping options. Here, shoppers can find Argos; ASDA; Boots; Brantano; First Choice; JD; M&S Simply Food; Matalan; Next; Sports Direct; TX Maxx; and WHSmith. With such a selection of stores, Kingswood stands head and shoulders above the other suburbs of Hull in terms of shopping and arguably goes toe to toe with Hull City Centre in some senses. With Beverley up the road and the Flemingate Shopping Centre in tow, Kingswood has continuously displayed its shopping quality and continues to prove itself as a diverse and attractive option for shoppers.

Nightlife

Although I am not much of a nightlife aficionado, to the best of my knowledge, there is not much of a late-night scene in Kingswood. However, simply and rhetorically, why would there be? It seems that Kingswood has no desire and certainly no need to be a nightlife hub given that its qualities lie elsewhere. Having said that, Tribal Bar & Grill presents itself as an alluring late-night venue; open until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, the aforementioned cocktail menu is a sure-fire way to keep the ale flowing!

Hotels

Again, much like its nightlife, Kingswood is not known for its abundance of hoteliers, and as I said before, rightly so. However, the Premier Inn Hull North adroitly serves all weary travellers in and around the Kingswood area and presents itself as the perfect stopover for those visiting Kingswood and nearby East Yorkshire.

At Premier Inn Hull North, you can book a room for £77 with the option of adding an unlimited cooked breakfast for an additional £9.50. To that end, Kingswood is indeed capable of catering for an overnight or prolonged stay if necessary.

Property

According to Rightmove, properties in Kingswood had an overall average price of £186,045 over the last year. The majority of sales in Kingswood during the last year were terraced properties, selling for an average of £151,226. Additionally, detached properties sold for an average of £253,371, and semi-detached properties fetched £173,353.

And now for the good stuff, the following homes are available for sale in Kingswood right now:

Linn Park – £360,000

Transport

Kingswood, like many modern housing estates, is well-positioned to make the most of its surrounding area. With both Beverley Road and Wayne Road on the doorstep Hull City Centre is 16 minutes away; Beverley is 12 minutes away; the Humber Bridge is 24 minutes away, and Hornsea is 26 minutes away.

Additionally, the ASDA Kingswood bus and coach station provide excellent bus transport to the rest of Hull and East Yorkshire by virtue of its location and 30-minute travel time to Hull Paragon Interchange—importantly, the Interchange is part of the national rail network— and is serviced by both local bus companies East Yorkshire and Stagecoach.

Tickets are affordable; for example, one can purchase a day saver ticket—within the Hull zone—with both companies for £4.
