Hull Music Service has been invited by Arts Council England to become lead partner for North East Lincolnshire Music Education Hub, in addition to being the lead partner for Hull Music Hub.
James Dickinson, Head of Hull Music Service said: “This is not only an endorsement of our work in Hull, but it also opens up many exciting possibilities that will improve the musical opportunities available to our children and young people.
“Our work in Hull receives fantastic support from Hull City Council as well as strong partnerships with our schools and other music education partners within the Hull Music Hub. We will now also look to build on what has already been achieved in North East Lincolnshire, strengthening the identity and resilience of the North East Lincolnshire Music Education Hub by nurturing partnerships and networks.”
This work, led by a new leadership post to be based in North East Lincolnshire, will also be looking for opportunities to collaborate across the wider region.
Stephen Wild, Strategic Lead for Music in North East Lincolnshire added: “This is very good news for the children and young people of North East Lincolnshire. This will help us to achieve a secure foundation to build long lasting success in music education.”
Councillor Shane McMurray, Portfolio Holder for children’s services in Hull said: “It gives me enormous pride that Hull City Council has committed to the Hull Music Service, which has reached thousands of families helping to build on our creative legacy and opening up musical life to many who otherwise may not have had the opportunity.
“The confidence and skills gained from learning an instrument is invaluable and develops a sense of achievement and confidence that young people can carry into most aspects of their lives. The fact that our work here has now led to the Arts Council request that we take a larger regional role is testament to the dedication and commitment of our Hull Music Service staff. I’m confident we have the ambition, skills and knowledge to thrive with partners at a regional level.“
Arts Council England’s Director for Music Education, Hannah Fouracre said: “All children should be able to sing, learn an instrument, play together and make musical progress. This is why the Arts Council believes that it is so important that children and young people and schools across England are supported by an excellent Music Education Hub. I’m delighted that Hull Music Service is going to lead the Music Education Hub in North East Lincolnshire and look forward to seeing how their work develops.”
