We Are Goddesses is a vibrant interactive art installation, created by Hull artist, Alex Hunt, which can be seen on the windows of Streetlife Museum.

Running until Saturday 2nd April, the installation is inspired by Hull and East Riding Museum’s many depictions of goddesses through time. The work poses the question, ‘If a goddess is a woman with power who we admire, who would we consider a goddess today?’

The Arts Council funded project forms part of Hull Museum’s work celebrating femme identifying people throughout 2022. Female led, community producing company, ARCADE, have been commissioned to work with female representatives from Hull’s Youth Parliament and Kingston Youth Centre to create goddesses for our time. Working with writer Maureen Lennon, the young women have created poetry and prose which has been brought to life by Alex Hunt, painted on the front of the mirrored windows of Streetlife Museum.

People are invited to not only view them, but to include their own reflection and join the line-up of goddesses.

Sarah Howard of Hull Museums said: “We are delighted to celebrate Hull’s femme identifying people alongside young women from the city. We are excited to work with Freedom Festival for their March event and look forward to seeing our spaces used in different ways.”

Participants are also encouraged to share their thoughts and photos of their experience on social media by using the hashtag #HullGoddess.

A poetic audio description to accompany the artwork will be found on ARCADE’s website,
