A new pedestrian island will soon make it easier and safer to cross Bellfield Avenue in east Hull.

The refuge island will be installed next month near the junction with Twickenham Close.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo said: “As a council, we are committed to making our roads and streets safer and more accessible for everyone.

“This new pedestrian island will provide a much-needed crossing point for people on Bellfield Avenue, significantly improving safety.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while this work is being carried out.”

The work is due to begin on Monday 6 March and should take about two weeks.

To allow the work to be carried out safely, part of the road will be temporarily closed to vehicles. Traffic will be diverted via Savoy Road, Ings Road and Holderness Road.

Information on alternative bus routes will be displayed at affected bus stops.

The work is being carried out by PBS Construction on behalf of Hull City Council.
