Contemporary folk-rock singer-songwriter Ben Caplan has been confirmed for a live show at Pocklington Arts Centre (PAC) this autumn as part of his forthcoming European and Canadian tour.

Caplan’s extensive tour, which brings him to PAC on Thursday 11 November, marks the 10th anniversary of his first album release and will follow hot on the heels of ‘Recollection’ a retrospective collection of stripped back re-interpretations of songs from his back catalogue being released this October.

PAC manager James Duffy said: “I saw Ben perform at Cambridge Folk Festival in 2019 and was blown away, like the rest of the audience, with his performance.

“He has a fantastic stage presence and mixes a wonderful blend of musical styles from folk to gypsy through to rock – imagine the love child of Tom Waits & Gogol Bordello and you are getting somewhere close.”

Combining timeless melodies with a contemporary folk-rock twist, singer-songwriter Caplan is both the roar of the hurricane and the eye of the storm. He has an uncanny ability to channel both wild abandon and quiet introspection.

Ben released his first studio album in 2011 and has spent the last ten years recording music and performing to ever growing audiences in music clubs and theatres around the world.

Support will be by the award-winning Gabrielle Papillon whose ‘Shout’ is a triumph, propelled by equal parts synth, big pianos, and anger, exploding in thoughtful, danceable art-pop anthems of uprising, hope, and a delirious celebration of self.

James added: “I am delighted Gabrielle is accompanying Ben on this tour, as his support, as this enables PAC to introduce our audiences to another acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter.

“I first saw Gabrielle perform at a Music Nova Scotia showcase event, several years ago, and have followed her career ever since.”

Tickets for Ben Caplan, with support by Gabrielle Papillon live at PAC on Thursday 11 November, 8pm are £12 advance, £14 on the door.
