The newly refurbished Beverley Road Baths have reopened following a £3.75 million project.
The centre was officially opened by Lord Mayor, Councillor Lynn Petrini, who unveiled a new plaque.
The facility, which closed to the public in June last year, has benefited from the construction of a new larger gym, as well as the refurbishment of the existing one, new and improved steam and sauna facilities, internal refurbishment works to the poolside and all changing facilities.
Other works include a renovation to the main reception and essential maintenance repairs to the Grade II-listed building with a new roof and roof lights as well as refurbished windows. The mechanical and electrical systems have also been replaced and upgraded to modern day standards, along with the installation of a new ventilation system.
The project is part of Hull City Council’s £18.5million investment into leisure facilities across the city, including the £4.6million transformation of Albert Avenue Pools that will see, amongst other improvements, the facility’s historic much-loved lido reopen after 25 years.
Councillor Daren Hale, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “Our leisure facilities are not just cherished by the council, but greatly loved by local residents.
“This investment has secured the future of the historic Beverley Road Baths for generations to come and is part of our commitment to neighbourhood leisure facilities throughout the city. Already, huge investment has taken place at Ennerdale and Woodford, and it is Albert Ave’s turn next!”
The project has been delivered by Hull Esteem Consortium LEP Ltd, the council’s pre-procured framework, which has led the delivery of £400 million of new and improved education facilities across the city, along with culture and leisure regeneration projects, including Hull New Theatre and Ferens Art Gallery.
Gavin Barley, General Manager of Hull Esteem, said: “Beverley Road Baths is part of Hull’s heritage and it has been fantastic to bring it back to life, whilst also preserving and restoring some of the original features and structure of the building to stay true to its rich history.
“Throughout the development process, we’ve worked closely with the conservation team to ensure we approach the refurbishment sensitively and sympathetically.
“The building will play a significant part in the health and wellbeing of Hull’s residents for many years to come, and we hope the public are excited as we are for its reopening.”
Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, Chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “It’s fantastic to be welcoming residents back to Beverley Road Baths following its refurbishment. Alongside the council investment, HCAL have invested £56,000 in new qym equipment meaning people visiting the site will have the best experience.”
Regular opening times are 7am – 9pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am – 3.30pm Saturday and Sunday, with last admissions 45 minutes before closing.
