Biggest events to look out for in Hull this August & September

We’re officially in the back-end of summer and after a couple months of fantastic weather and even better events, there’s still a whole load more to keep you entertained for the rest of the season. With music and food festivals still on the horizon, as well as fantastic live gigs, comedy, and days out, August & September look to close out summer with a bang.

Tribfest

Fri 19 Aug – Sun 31 Aug, Sledmere, Driffield

Filled with family, friends and a lineup of dreams, guaranteed to be the best weekend of your summer!
As well as tribute bands, They’ve got loads more entertainment across the stages, which include The Unsigned Marquee, Acoustic Marquee, Laughing Bull Comedy Marquee, Silent Disco / Disco Marquee, Freedom Road Under 20s Marquee and the Kidzone. Plus a range of retail and catering outlets across the site so there’s plenty to please everyone.

Cottingham Folk Festival

Thurs 25th – 28th August, Cottingham Civic Hall

Returning for it’s seventh outing this summer, the Cottingham Folk Festival takes place across the August Bank Holiday Weekend in the picturesque East Yorkshire village of Cottingham, near Hull.

Freedom Festival

26th Aug – 4th September, City Wide

Freedom Festival, Hull’s award-winning international arts festival, is back for its 16th year promising a packed programme in Hull city centre and online for 9 days with over 135 performances.

The festival features more than 350 individual performers, artists, musicians, visual artists, creatives, and plenty who cannot be easily ‘pigeonholed’ into one form or the other. Expect the unexpected!

Starting on 26th August with a finale weekend from 2nd – 4th September, the festival promises to be packed with excitement, awe, joy, beauty and thought-provoking content which audiences anticipate from Freedom Festival.

Sunday 28th August, Queen Street

Hull’s modern makers market is back down Fruit Market for thier summer edition!

They will be bringing you the best traders from across Hull, The North and even further! Expect makers, creators, artists bakers, movers and shakers bringing you print / jewellery / homeware / art / vintage / ceramics / food / drinks / music / plants / more good things

The Kooks

September 2nd, Bridlington Spa

Hull Street Food Nights, a wide range of hot food and drink taking inspiration from all over the world, in an open-air setting. Come into the city centre after work and enjoy a drink and something to eat with family and friends in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.

Maritime Festival

9-11 September, Hull Marina

A two day event at Hull Marina, Victoria Pier, Humber Street and the Old Fruit Market areas.

Every corner you turn you will see and hear the sounds of folk music, pop your clogs on and join in with traditional folk dancing, swing around the Maypole and try instrument making and song writing.

There will be an array of live folk sessions in the pubs, a main stage, a busker trail, an open mic warehouse for Hull’s up and coming talent and ticketed events on the evenings, across both days.

Listen to folk tales by a traditional story teller in Jackanory Corner, visit the Folk Den and join in with the folk crafts for the whole family.

Learn about Hull’s heritage and folk culture dating back to the 70’s at Folk Union One, and watch how the Waterson’s success unfolded over the decades.

Take a food trip around the world and sup up at the real ale warehouse.

10th September, University of Hull

You’ll be excited, entertained, and enthralled by some amazing scientists, engineers and mathematicians from all over the Humber region and beyond. From local science entertainers to the regions top companies and the world’s largest research facility, they’re all coming to the University of Hull to celebrate the best that STEM has to offer.

Professor Brian Cox – Horizons

September 14th – 15th, Bonus Arena

Horizons. A 21st Century Space Odyssey with Professor Brian Cox to take audiences on a dazzling cinematic journey

Having set two Guinness World Records with his previous sell-out World Tour, Professor Brian Cox is back with a brand-new Arena show.

Horizons takes audiences on a dazzling cinematic journey; a story of how we came to be and what we can become. Using state of the art LED screen technology, Arenas will be filled with images of far-away galaxies, alien worlds, supermassive black holes and a time before the Big Bang. What is the nature of space and time? Why does the Universe exist? How did life begin, how rare might it be and what is the significance of life in the Cosmos? What does it mean to live a small, finite life in a vast, eternal Universe?  The deepest of questions will be explored using the latest advances in our understanding of quantum theory, black holes, biology, planetary science, astronomy and cosmology.

The Official RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Series 3 Tour

17th September, Bonus Arena

Drag Royalty will sashay across the UK next autumn for The Series Three Tour of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

Visiting theatres and arenas across England, Scotland and Wales, expect a night of endless extravaganza as ALL 12 queens from Series Three of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK werk their way across the country.

And audiences in Hull can witness the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent of their favourite queens LIVE on stage as the tour includes a date at the Bonus Arena on Saturday September 17. 

Acclaimed for their amazing production values, expect the unexpected in this glittering tour which will include Series Three finalists Kitty Scott-Claus, Krystal Versace, Vanity Milan and Ella Vaday.

22nd September, Bonus Arena

Fresh from an appearance on the hit ITV Show ‘T in February, where he was runner up, NE-YO’s affection for his UK fans has drawn him back for the biggest UK tour of his career.

NE-YO’s hotly anticipated UK Tour promises to be showstopping and spectacular and will see him perform new music from his seventh album Self Explanatory’, which came out last week via Motown Records and available HERE and includes recently-released singles ‘You Got The Body,’ ‘Don’t Love Me,’ and ‘Stay Down (feat Yung Bleu).’

Creator and Star of Netflix smash hit comedian and TV’s Katherine Ryan makes a hugely welcome return to the stage with her brand-new live show, Missus. Having previously denounced partnership, Katherine has since married her first love, accidentally. A lot has changed for everyone and we can look forward to hearing Katherine Ryan’s hilarious new perspectives on life, love, and what it means to be Missus.

Comedy superstar Katherine Ryan will visit the Bonus Arena, Hull on Friday 30 September 2022.
