Blue Bay Mediterranean: A gem in Hull city centre perfect for pre-theatre dining

Nestled on Albion Street in Hull, just a stone’s throw away from the Hull New Theatre, lies a hidden gem of the Mediterranean cuisine scene: Blue Bay Mediterranean. With its Greek-inspired theme and a fantastic range of dishes from across the Mediterranean, this cosy restaurant is perfect for pre-theatre dining or a relaxed evening out with friends and family.

Blue Bay Mediterranean opened its doors around a year ago, following the closure of a previous Greek restaurant that succumbed to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The new restaurant has emerged stronger, offering an enticing menu that goes beyond Greek cuisine to incorporate a delightful blend of Turkish and Italian flavours as well.

The intimate setting of this small restaurant is an ideal backdrop for the bold flavours of its Mediterranean offerings. With Greek-themed decor that transports you to the sun-kissed shores of the Aegean Sea, Blue Bay Mediterranean creates a warm and inviting atmosphere for patrons to enjoy their meals.

Blue Bay Mediterranean offers a diverse and delicious menu, but the highlights are definitely the mixed grill and mixed platter, both priced at £21.90. The mixed grill features a mouth-watering combination of chicken souvlaki, Greek village sausage, lamb chop, halloumi souvlaki, and meatballs in a blue bay tomato sauce. Served with crispy fries, a fresh salad, and warm pita bread, this dish is a true celebration of Mediterranean flavours.

The mixed platter offers a slightly different experience but is equally delectable. It includes feta parcels with honey and sesame, falafel, meatballs in a tomato sauce, chicken souvlaki, and Greek village sausage. This platter is also served with fries, salad, and pita bread, making it the perfect option for those who wish to sample a variety of Mediterranean favourites.

Adding to the experience, we also ordered a side of garlic mushrooms for £6.90, which were served with creamy garlic and thyme sauce and warm crusty bread. The rich and indulgent flavours of this dish were truly delightful and complemented the meal perfectly.

No meal at Blue Bay Mediterranean would be complete without trying their homemade desserts. We opted for the Baileys homemade cheesecake, which was a tasty treat, and the homemade chocolate hazelnut parfait. The parfait, with its light and creamy mousse on a sponge base, was simply incredible and left us wanting more.

Blue Bay Mediterranean is a shining example of the culinary treasures that Hull has to offer. With its Mediterranean-inspired menu, delightful desserts, and inviting atmosphere, this small Greek-themed restaurant is perfect for an unforgettable dining experience. So, whether you’re catching a show at the Hull New Theatre or looking for a delicious night out, be sure to pay a visit to Blue Bay Mediterranean on Albion Street.
