Burton Constable Hall to set August ablaze with amazing series of Summer shows

A series of spectacular summer shows from the scenic North Garden of Burton Constable Hall is set to make August an amazing month of events.

Back for its second year, and set to be even louder and livelier than last, Burton Constable Hall & Grounds re-launch Live on the Lawn!

Throughout the Summer Holidays (August – September) there will be an abundance of talent descending upon Sproatley, as both local and national artists and performers line-up for over 20 live shows. 

From an evening of comedy featuring Britain’s Got Talent finalist Daliso Chaponda and other award winning comics like Jack Gleadow and Yuriko Kotani, to family favourite pantomimes such as Cinderella and Peter Pan, there truly is something for everyone. And if it’s live music you’ve been missing, look no further than the ‘That 80s Rock Show’ tribute and the festival-themed HallFest which showcases no fewer than 14 acts in one-day with The Black Delta Movement headlining!

Not to mention supporting the arts industry by giving crew members and performers the opportunity to work again.”

Alice in Wonderland – 13th August

12, 2, & 4pm. Hall & Grounds open 10am-5pm

A magical adaptation of the classic story, Alice in Wonderland. Join your host, the Mad Hatter, and all his friends as they help Alice find her unbirthday party.

We bring the magic of pantomime outdoors to our scenic North Garden, for this one-off summer spectacular! 

Gary Starr Pantomimes are original and fully interactive. Filled with songs and dances, their actors will encourage the audience to participate and interact with the characters.

Each performance lasts around 1 hour with character walkabouts in between performances for photo opportunities. 

Your ticket includes entry into the Grounds which is open from 10am-5pm, so you can spend the whole day at Burton Constable enjoying the various walks and trails around the parkland, as well as refreshments at Stables Kitchen.

Cinderella – 14th August

12, 2, & 4pm. Hall & Grounds open 10am-5pm

A magical adaptation of the classic fairy-tale. Cinderella is the poor step sister to her evil ugly sisters; Kim and Aggie and although badly treated dreams of meeting her one true love. After a chance meeting with the Prince she knows she must see him again and hopes that a chance to attend the Royal Ball will be the perfect opportunity. But her two ugly sisters have different plans for her. Tearing her dress and destroying her ticket it seems all hope is lost, that is until her fairy godmother appears to save the day. Will she make it to the Ball in time? Will she get to be with the handsome Prince Charming? Only time will tell….

Peter Pan – 15th August

The last of the weekend of pantomime performances celebrates pirates, fairies and a free-spirited, mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up!

A family favourite story of all time returns in a tale of wonder and magic. Join Peter Pan on his adventures in Neverland as he tries to outwit the villainous Captain Hook. With all you’re favourite characters, stunning costumes and magical songs this show is sure to be a big hit this summer.

How to Draw Stuff with Calvin Innes – 18th & 19th August

12 & 2pm. Hall & Grounds open 10am-5pm

Professional cartoonist and illustrator, Calvin Innes will be hosting live, interactive drawing sessions which are great fun for kids of all ages. Calvin has created thousands of illustrations for cartoons, comics, children’s books, advertising, toys, games, animations and everything in between.

With over twenty years of experience, we’re sure that Calvin’s session will be an enchanting and exciting experience!

Your ticket will include a drawing pad and pencil, as well as entry into the Grounds, so you can spend the whole day at Burton Constable enjoying the various walks and trails around the parkland.

Jeddy Bear & Gary’s Picnic – 25th August

12 & 2pm. Hall & Grounds open 10am-5pm

If you go down to Burton Constable Hall & Grounds on this day you’re in for a big surprise!

Nominated for ‘Best Kids Show’ at the Leicester Comedy Festival & UK Kids’ Comedy Festival awards 2021, Hull’s comedy duo, Jed and Gary, are going to tell you a story, well that is until a very naughty bear storms the stage!

Mayhem and madness ensue in this not-so-traditional telling of the Teddy Bear’s Picnic. There’ll be music, dancing, and pie facing madness…well what else would you expect from these festival favourites?!

Full of mischief, audience participation and lots of fun to keep the whole family laughing and entertained. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes and your teddy bear!

Chris Holmes Extraordinaire – 26th August

Start your Bank Holiday Weekend with an evening with Chris Holmes – star of Lockdown’s ‘Chris’ Kitchen Cabaret’. 

Chris’ eccentric and eclectic mix of songs, coupled with his natural charm & charisma, makes for a night of thoroughly raucous entertainment!

Laughs on the Lawn – 27th August

Join Burton Constable Hall for an evening of comedy and laughter with top comedy from some of the regions talented home-town heroes, followed by multi-award winning acts hot off the UK circuit, comedy clubs and festivals.

Get ready to welcome stars of Britain’s Got Talent, The Royal Variety Performance, Comedy Central & Harry Hill’s Clubnite! Plus we’ll have acts including a BBC New Comedy Award Winner & Leicester Comedy Festival Award winners and nominees, as well as performers from BBC Radio 2 & 4, BBC 1 series Hospital People & Channel 4 Comedy shorts!

Sit back, relax and have a laugh with this lively lot: Haseeb Malik, Khalid Raheem, David Smith, Milly Armstrong-Clark, Frasco Fools, Hospital Radio DJ Ivan Brackenbury, Jack Gleadow, Yuriko Kotani , Katie Prichard, Ian D Montfort and our headline and star of Britain’s Got Talent, Daliso Chaponda.

That 80’s Rock Show – 28th August

That 80s Rock Show is an 80s nostalgia extravaganza, paying homage to the era that taste forgot!

Performed by a 6-piece live band playing all the biggest 80s stadium rock anthems and power ballads, get ready for an energetic, anthemic, fun show, with these larger-than-life characters.

That 80s Rock Show are bringing back the stadium rock anthems of the 1980s to the North Garden of Burton Constable Hall.

BC Spoken Word – 29th August

12-6pm

What a way to spend a Sunday – unwinding in scenic surroundings & enjoying an array of spoken word performances. 

Spoken word is a form of storytelling characterised by rhyme, repetition, improvisation, and word play. Often tackling issues of social justice, politics, race, and community it can provoke emotions on sensitive topics but it can also inspire through music, sound, dance and comedy to connect with audiences.

Soul Syndicate & Diskoklubb present: The Summer Garden Session – 4th September

2pm -10pm (Grounds open from 10am, last admission 5pm)

Bringing a modern sound to the grounds of Burton Constable Hall, Soul Syndicate & Diskoklubb are set to get you dancing the night away in the most idyllic of settings.

The Yorkshire duo are inviting you to enjoy a full day of disco, soul, funk, hip-hop, house & nugroove, live on the lawn! 

This event also allows you access to the Grounds, so you can come early and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Burton Constable Hall.
