Community Champions: We visit the Kingswood football club bringing everyone together

Hull & East Yorkshire is full of amazing community groups, run by local volunteers who want to make a difference in our region.

In the latest of our “Community Champions” series, we bring you closer to this transformation through a compelling 5-minute video, featuring interviews with founder of Kingswood United Football Club, Paul Richardson and the club volunteers. Their stories illuminate the club’s journey from a simple soccer school to the thriving Connexin Community Football Ground, a hub of health, happiness, and unity.

Paul Richardson’s vision in 2018 was clear: to fill the void of sports facilities for Kingswood’s youth.

Thanks to community volunteers and a grant from Hull City Council, that vision became a bustling reality, emphasising the power of collective effort and community spirit. Volunteers, many of whom are parents of the club’s young athletes, have discovered the joy and personal growth that comes from their involvement, highlighting the benefits beyond the pitch, including improved mental and physical health, and the creation of a tightly-knit community.

The transformation at Kingswood United extends into its volunteer-run café and the support from local businesses and charities like Connexin and HEY Smile Foundation, which has been instrumental in the club’s development.

With the recent establishment of a charity arm, the club is poised to extend its positive impact even further, demonstrating the far-reaching benefits of volunteerism.

We’re inspired by Kingswood United’s story and encourage our readers to explore all volunteering opportunities around Hull & East Yorkshire at time2volunteer.org.

Whether you’re looking to contribute to a project like Kingswood United or find other ways to make a difference in your community, your efforts can lead to meaningful change.
