Crown Paints has opened a new raw material and packaging warehouse facility at its manufacturing base in Hull.

The warehouse at Crown Paints’ Sculcoates Lane site represents a £4.4m investment by the company and provides an additional 46,000 sq ft of storage space for raw materials and packaging.

Crown Paints’ operation in Hull is the company’s major UK water-based paint production site.

The new facility has enabled the paint manufacturer to consolidate its operations from several older buildings into one modern facility, and allow it to repurpose the existing buildings to accommodate future growth.

Members of Hull City Council, including council leader councillor Daren Hale, joined Crown Paint’s manufacturing director Ellis Mudd at the official opening of the warehouse.

Ellis Mudd said: “The new multimillion-pound Hull warehouse creates much-needed additional storage space for raw materials and packaging, allowing us to increase our manufacturing output and improve efficiencies.

“Not only that, but the new modern infrastructure which includes more than 500 solar panels contributes significantly to our sustainability strategy.

“We will continue to make significant investments in our manufacturing capability as part of a commitment to the long-term future of our facilities.”

Councillor Daren Hale, from Hull City Council, added: “Crown Paints can trace its origins in the city to the early 19th century, it is therefore gratifying to see the continued investment in the site and in a business that continues to be a major employer in the city.”

Hull-based construction company Hobson & Porter was the main contractor on the building and oversaw the construction project throughout.
