Cycle hubs deliver more than 1,000 repairs to bikes in the community

More than 1,000 bike repairs have taken place thanks to the community cycle hubs in Hull.

The hubs are operated by local cycling charity R-evolution and provide weekly drop-in sessions for free bike repairs, training for volunteers and bike rides.

Since the hubs opened in April this year, more than 1,500 people have engaged with the project.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Roads, Highways: “The community cycle hubs are going from strength to strength, and it is encouraging to see how many residents have engaged with the hubs which are spread across the community in Hull.

“The hubs offer local residents the opportunity to access different supportive cycling-related skills and services on a weekly basis, ensuring that they have the confidence to continue cycling in Hull.”

The community cycling hubs have also changed their opening hours over the autumn and winter period –

  • The Peel Project, Peel Street Park, Peel Street, HU3 1QS – Mondays 10am to 3pm
  • Child Dynamix The Hut, Preston Road, HU9 5UY – Tuesdays 11am to 5.30pm
  • Tigers Trust, Tigers Trust Arena, West Park, Walton Street, HU3 6GA – Wednesdays 9.30am – 12pm
  • Goodwin Development Trust, Thornton Village Hall, Walker Street, HU3 2EZ – Wedensdays 1pm to 4pm

John Marshall MBE, CEO of R-evolution: “We are so pleased with how well received the Community Hubs have been during its first year. Our mechanics continue to work really hard helping our communities get active again through cycle loans and repairing bikes that may have otherwise gone into landfill. We are currently training volunteers from the different areas as we work to make the project self-sustainable for years to come.”
