Contractors have moved into East Park to begin work on the £850,000 revamp of the splash pad.

Water play specialists Ustigate have fully redesigned the space which will re-purpose the lower pool as a splash pad and water jets, landscaping the remaining area. They will also remove the plant room and holding tanks and replace with an improved treatment and filtration system.

The project includes a state-of-the-art water filtration system, ensuring that chemical levels are constantly monitored and in the unlikely event of an issue it would automatically switch off ensuring public safety, similar to the system used at the Queen Victoria Square fountains.

Councillor Dave Craker, portfolio holder for Leisure and Culture said: “It’s fantastic to have Ustigate on site and ready to deliver our vision for the splash pad. I look forward to working with them to get the facility ready for families to enjoy next summer.”

Jeremy Sutherland, managing director of Ustigate said: “Ustigate is proud and delighted to be working with Hull City Council to refurbish and upgrade their existing aquatic play facility at East Park, Hull.

“Having been established since 1966, Ustigate bring 54 years of their own aquatic expertise to the project, as well as their amazing, world leading products from long term partner Vortex International.

“There is something special inside East Park’s design for everyone and Hull City Council and Ustigate are delighted to be starting works on site now.”

Work to deconstruct the existing facility will now take place before new equipment is installed.

It is expected that the splash pad will be ready to open to the public early summer 2021.
