East Riding of Yorkshire Council is offering support to people and businesses in the East Riding in order to help recover from the pandemic and stay as healthy as possible during these unprecedented times.

This last year has been especially difficult for most people and businesses dealing with the brutal realities of the pandemic and the council would like to extend an arm of support to those who need it.

Councillor Jane Evison, portfolio holder for economic growth and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Learning to cope with our stress and finding healthy ways to deal with situations can go a long way in living a healthy and positive life.

“It has never been more important to look after ourselves and each other as we all work together to get through this difficult time.

“There is help out there for businesses during the path to recovery and the support to stay mentally and physically healthy is right on our doorsteps.”

Support for local businesses

COVID-19 has been a tough time for local businesses and the local economy and the council knows that they need support, guidance, and advice to navigate through what has been a difficult and unprecedented time.

The council is here to support businesses with their response to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 with plenty of resources, information, and advice.

As well as the significant impact on business we know that the pandemic has had serious implications for people’s physical and mental health and, as businesses are starting re-open, we want to make sure that everybody has access to information, resources, support and advice at the click of their fingertips.

Look after your mental health

During the pandemic, many have experienced a mental health problem, seen a loved one struggle or had to cope with the loss of financial income or their business.

Following a difficult and repetitive year of pandemic lockdown and homeworking, there are great opportunities to engage with colleagues on this vital issue which affects more than one in four of the UK population.

Love Your High Street

East Riding of Yorkshire Council wants to support ideas and projects that will help revitalise and repurpose our high street spaces and rural communities.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic there has never been a more important time to access the Love Your High Street initiative.

Love Your High Street will provide funding that supports ideas from local businesses, town and parish councils and organisations with projects that will help revive our high streets and help them flourish in the future.

Councillor Evison added: “Whether it is tidying up a shop front or public space, diversifying a business, launching a business with a difference, bringing back an empty unit/space into practicable use or an event that will attract more visitors safely; we want to hear from you.

“There are advisors on hand to help you apply for funding that might help turn the right ideas into reality.”

Do It For East Yorkshire

The council is encouraging people to support their local high street by choosing to ‘Do It For East Yorkshire’.

The council has launched a campaign that features real businesses from some of the region’s market towns to help make sure that the local high street comes back booming.

Local businesses need all the love and support they can get to keep trading. To find out more about the campaign, how to support local business and how to shop safely to protect others and yourself visit www.doitforeastyorkshire.co.uk
