Hull & East Yorkshire’s most wonderful walks to experience this Winter

East Yorkshire is such a beautiful area and Winter is one of the best times of the year to explore some of the most picturesque landscapes we have to offer.

Here are some of Hull & East Yorkshire’s finest locations to be the backdrop for a walk this Winter season.

Humber Bridge Country Park

Ferriby Road, Hessle

One of the best natural woodland walks close to home has to be the Humber Bridge Country Park, which (as the name suggests) is right next to the Humber Bridge and will give you impressive views of this landmark. As well as that, it has a huge range of trails for you to explore with all kinds of information and interesting sights available to you.

Beverley Westwood

Walkington Rd, Beverley

The Westwoods in Beverley are split into the East and West pastures, but both areas give you lots of green hills (and even a little bit of woodland) to trek over. Plus, the cattle have been brought inside for the winter so there will be a lot more freedom for you to walk around this area.

Danes Dyke

Flamborough – Bridlington

Although the sandy white beach doesn’t quite scream ‘winter’, the Danes Dyke walk gives you a great view of the East Yorkshire coast all the way from the southern Flamborough beach to Bridlington Bay. If you have dogs, then this is one of the best walks to give them a chance to run about.

Sledmere Park

Sledmere Estate, Driffield

This walk gives you a great opportunity to be close to the wildlife at Sledmere deer park and appreciate the views of the parkland, Avenue Wood and the Castle. What makes this walk great for winter is that it is connected to the estate where you can find a restaurant to warm up afterwards!

You can find out more about Sledmere House and the surrounding walks on their website.

Allerthorpe Woods

Common Lane, Pocklington

This pretty woodland area has lots of trails for you to explore and it is very popular with dog walkers because it has miles of flat track alongside the woods. It is an area that is rich in wildlife. You can also take a break and get refreshments at the nearby pub, The Melbourne Arms, whilst you’re on your walk.

Welton Dales

Welton – Brantingham

One of the best places for a walk in winter has to be a tour around a village and the Welton Dales allows you to walk through some of the most idyll parts of Welton and Brantingham as well as trek the woodland that connects them. The Welton Dale is full of hills and natural attractions that will make a wonderful winter walk.

Flamborough Head

North Marine Road, Flamborough

This stunning hike over Flamborough Head takes you on walk around the very edge of East Yorkshire. Whilst there won’t be any puffins this time of year, you still have the chance to spot some seals, seabirds and shipwrecks, especially if you go towards Bempton Cliffs. It is definitely one of the most stunning coastal walks in East Yorkshire.
