Baring in mind the gloomy economic forecast awaiting Britain this Winter, Hull West and Hessle MP Emma Hardy has decided to take action. Centred around giving to the community, the Reverse Advent Calendar initiative is all about helping those struggling with food poverty this Winter.
Food poverty continues to be a huge problem across the country and especially in the constituency of Hull West and Hessle.
For this reason, MP Emma Hardy is encouraging businesses, schools and families this year to put together a Reverse Advent Calendar food box to take to one of 4 foodbanks in the Hull West and Hessle area.
The Reverse Advent Calendar works differently to a traditional one by using the days in late November/December to put items into a box daily ready to take to a local foodbank in time for Christmas week.
This means instead of opening something for advent, you are giving something back to the community each day. Depending on when you begin the reverse calendar will decide on how many items you eventually have in your box or you may wish to add items in to make it up to 24.
If you would like to be a part of this then there is a suggestions list of items attached consisting of tins, personal care products, dried packets, drinks and treats. It is requested that all advent calendar boxes be dropped off at one of the below foodbanks by Friday 16th December.
Hessle and Anlaby Foodbank:
Drop off at Hessle Town Hall- open 5 days per week, 9-4.
Or, alternatively, The Hessle and Anlaby Foodbank is open both Monday and Thursday, 8-1.
Hull Foodbank:
Jubilee Central, King Edward Street ,Hull ,HU1 3SQ.
Open Mon,Wed,Thurs and Friday, 11-2pm to drop off.
HU4 Hub Foodbank:
18 Sibelius Road, Hull, HU4 7NH.
Drop off Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10-2.
