He has been hailed as “one of the most gifted singer-songwriters of his generation,” has collaborated with Rufus and Martha Wainwright, and released five critically acclaimed albums.

Now audiences will have the chance to see Teddy Thompson, famously the son of Richard and Linda Thompson, perform live within the intimate setting of Pocklington Arts Centre on Saturday 22 January, 8pm.

And to make it an extra special night of live music, support will come from Roseanne Reid, the daughter of The Proclaimers’ Craig Reid whose debut album was produced by Teddy.

PAC Director Janet Farmer said: “This really is going to be very special night, with not one but two incredibly talented musicians whose musical heritage is undisputable taking to the PAC stage. Teddy last played here four years ago, and we can’t wait to welcome him back.”

Heavily influenced not by folk music but by such artists as Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers, NPR reported, ‘Teddy says he didn’t listen to any music made after 1959 until he was 16.

As a kid, he listened to early rock ‘n’ roll and country music exclusively, resulting in a unique voice that is at once rock and country, then pop and folk.

“While music is in his DNA, Thompson sings with his own voice, a powerfully understated, emotional, echoey croon” (★★★★ Guardian)

Teddy has released five albums to critical acclaim and has contributed to the soundtrack of the Golden Globe and Bafta-winning film Brokeback Mountain.

He has also recorded two songs for the soundtrack to the Leonard Cohen tribute I’m Your Man, and he contributed two songs to the Nick Drake retrospective Way to Blue.

Roseanne Reid’s new single is an acoustic cover of Dua Lipa’s ‘Hallucinate’, recently released to coincide with her tour supporting Teddy.

Roseanne has described the original as one of her favourite songs of 2021, and her take on the track creates a chilled, haunting version which weaves and bends together the timbre of her subtly smoky vocals and her guitar with the expressive cello playing of Graham Coe.

Roseanne Reid may be the daughter of Craig Reid, of Scottish legends The Proclaimers, but has earned respect as an independent, kick-starter funded artist through the calibre of her material as well as her musical and vocal talents.

Even Elton John is a fan, praising her on his ‘Rocket Hour’, show as a brand-new Edinburgh-based folk artist having been wowed by her debut album ‘Trails’.
