Organisations around the city will come together next week for an open-invite event to mark Children’s Mental Health Week. Stalls will take over the ground floor of St Stephen’s shopping centre from 9am to 5pm on Monday February 6, with information, resources and conversations. Parents or carers, professionals and young people are all welcome to drop in.

It has been organised by Hull’s Thrive Partnership, which brings together emotional and mental health support services and resources across the city.

Organisations and services at the event will include:

  • Emotional resilience coaching
  • The Warren and Cornerhouse
  • Mental Health Support Teams
  • CAHMS

The event launches a week-long focus on children and young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health, running until February 12. Every school has been invited to visit the St Stephen’s event, as well as holding assemblies, organising activities and raising awareness of mental health support.

Children’s Mental Health Week is a national event, organised by the charity Place2Be, which offers in-school counselling, support and training across the UK.

Cllr Linda Tock, Portfolio holder for Children and Young People’s Services, said: “It’s important that children and young people understand that it’s normal and nothing embarrassing or shameful to need support for your mental health. One in four people will have a problem with their mental health at some point, and we shouldn’t view it any differently to any other medical issue.

“Focus weeks like this are so important in removing stigma, raising awareness of support and how to access it, and breaking down the barriers to talking about it.

“The event itself will be a fantastic way to connect directly with a huge range of our local services and support. Organisations have really pulled together to make sure we can showcase what we have in Hull and create a one-stop-shop for anyone who wants to know more, whether its for individual or professional reasons”.
