The Dime Notes

About The Dime Notes

Join us to celebrate the heritage of the world’s most famous jazz city, digging back into the blues-drenched sounds of clarinet driven 1920’s New Orleans jazz with the welcome return of all-star quartet The Dime Notes.

On the way, we’ll unearth a repertoire of stomps, blues and forgotten gems of the era from musicians including Johnny Dodds, Jelly Roll Morton and Red Nicholls.

The band are fronted by Chris Barber’s long-time clarinettist David Horniblow, a much-admired figure on the European jazz stage, and UK pianist Sam Watts, a regular performer with Jean Toussaint and Jason Marsalis. Their sound is anchored by the unstoppable pulse of a knockout rhythm section – guitarist Dave Kelbie (Django a la Creole) and bassist Louis Thomas, known for his swing and versatility. They present a fresh take on a timeless style, celebrating the propulsive grooves and sultry melodies that made early jazz revolutionary, controversial and wildly popular.

Their music’s enormous fun and a fitting tribute to New Orleans at the height of jazz.
