Excellent exhibitions coming to Hull & East Yorkshire this Spring

Thanks in part to being named the UK city of culture in 2017, Hull and East Yorkshire’s artistic scene has seen something of a rejuvenation in recent years.

For example, there are a whole host of unique and interesting venues holding exhibitions this spring- including art, photography, archaeology and sculpting!

With this in mind then, here is a rundown of some excellent exhibitions coming to Hull & East Yorkshire this Spring.

Porosity | Sam Metz | 10 – 16:30 | Thursday – Saturday | 14 April – 24 June

Based at Artlink Hull on Princes Avenue, 87 Gallery’s current exhibition is ‘Porosity’ by Sam Metz, which is available for viewing until June 24th.

Unique and arresting, this is a must for any local art enthusiasts seeking something creative and provocative this Spring!

Those unable to attend the exhibition in person will be happy to learn that a virtual tour option is also available.

Winner Breaks First | Luke Beech | 12 April – 2 July 2023

This Spring at Humber Street Gallery, Luke Beech is debuting his first solo show, ‘Winner Breaks First’- concerning everything from queerness and madness to joy and hurt.

The show will feature an installation, videos and a sound piece. Immersive and honest, this is an exciting new exhibition, hosted at one of the local area’s standout galleries, and as such, should not be missed.

Baa’s House | Hetain Patel | 14 April – 25 June 2023

This Spring, Humber Street Gallery is also hosting Hetain Patel’s renowned, multi-media exhibition, ‘Baa’s House.’

Comprised of films, sculptures and paintings, ‘Baa’s House’ commemorates and celebrates the artists late grandmother, and as such is sure to be an emotionally charged exhibition.

Rediscovering Ferens | Identity | Friday 10 March – Sunday 21 May

Accumulating work from Ferens Art Gallery, The Warren and Future Ferens, this exciting new exhibition explores the meaning of identity, community and how art can communicate this.

Foregrounding local talent, this exhibition is perfect for local art enthusiasts and young artists looking to explore some fantastic local work!

Discover Ancient Egypt | 17 March – 18 June 2023

Ancient Egypt Season is coming to Ferens Art Gallery this Spring! Featuring two free exhibitions and a number of additional programmes, this wide-ranging exhibition is chiefly concerned with the histories and mysteries of Ancient Egypt.

The two exhibitions on show, Egyptian hieroglyphs: unlock the mystery and Tutankhamun: 100 years of discovery, are full of historical artifacts, riveting stories and confounding myths sure to entertain children and adults alike.

Ferens Artist in Residence | Liminal Creative | 7 February – 21 May 2023

Led by Hull based artist Louise Cole, Liminal Creative is an exhibition grounded in connectivity and connection.

Utilising a wide range of non touch technology, AV installations and theatrical interventions, this event is sure to have something for everyone.

Additionally, the artist will be available to chat to visitors from between 11 and 1 each Wednesday, excluding the 3rd of May.
