A section of Wincolmlee will close for five weeks to allow for essential upgrades to the electricity network.

The work will be carried out by Northern Powergrid from Monday January 31 to Friday March 4, and will require the road to be closed in both directions between Wilmington Bridge and Air Street.

A fully signed diversion will be in place. Owing to the nature of the excavations, access cannot be maintained for emergency services.

Cllr Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for roads, highways and transport said: “Northern Powergrid has advised us that these upgrades are necessary to ensure the electricity network continues to operate reliably and safely.

“The work will require this section of Wincolmlee to be closed for a period of five weeks, but will protect the network against future problems that would force emergency road closures.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank motorists for their patience during these works.”
