This essential Hull family business has been part of the city for 80 years – and it’s still going from strength to strength.
Founded by Fred Scott in 1945, just after the end of the Second World War, FR Scott Ltd started out supplying fixings and fasteners in a city rebuilding itself from the devastation of the Blitz.
Eight decades later, it’s become Hull’s largest independent supplier of fixings, fasteners and ironmongery, and is still proudly run by the fourth generation of the Scott family.
The company’s long history is a testament to its reliability, customer service and strong local roots. From its base on Canning Street, right next to St Stephen’s, FR Scott’s 30,000 square foot warehouse, trade counter and sales office are open to both businesses and the public.
There are thousands of products for every job imaginable, and their team are known for offering practical, knowledgeable advice — the kind of traditional service that’s hard to find these days.
Their display of architectural ironmongery is one of the largest in the city, and their trade accounts support thousands of businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire every month.
It’s not just about nuts and bolts, though. FR Scott also has a mechanical and electrical department that looks after everything from plumbing and heating in schools to bespoke electrical panel building and water testing for council buildings.
They recently launched their Fix and Fast website and a new 24/7 ordering app, making it easier than ever for customers to access their 16,000-strong product range.
Despite their long history, they’re far from stuck in the past. FR Scott continues to support the local community by sponsoring grassroots sports teams, as well as an engineering classroom at Wilberforce College, and investing in technology to make life easier for customers. It’s not a glamorous business — but it’s one that keeps homes, schools, businesses and major construction projects running smoothly.
