Hull’s pioneering health and wellbeing programme which brings together rival rugby
clubs and the local NHS has been shortlisted for a national HSJ Partnership Award.
The award recognises Hull FC Foundation and Hull KR Foundation for their
outstanding dedication to improving healthcare and effective collaboration with the
NHS.

The rugby clubs’ official charities, in collaboration with Hull Health and Care
Partnership, have been nominated in the ‘Best Not for Profit Working in Partnership
with the NHS’ category, thanks to the success of the Teaming Up for Health project.

Teaming up for Health uses the power of rugby to connect with people in Hull and
equip them with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to lead healthier lives. Now in
its fifth year, the foundation teams run after-school clubs for primary school children,
fitness and emotional wellbeing programmes for adults and social sessions for older
adults, aiming to tackle isolation and keep people active in older age.

All sessions delivered through the Teaming up for Health Programme are completely
free of charge. Find out about how you could get involved online at
www.hullfcfoundation.co.uk/ and www.hullkr.co.uk/foundation/.

The HSJ Partnership Awards recognise and honour the most effective partnerships,
innovative projects and collaborations in the UK health system. The prestigious

award programme, now in its sixth year, is not just a celebration of success stories
but also a platform to shape the future of our new integrated health and care system.

The judging panel comprised a diverse range of highly regarded figures across the
NHS and wider healthcare sector. To be shortlisted as a finalist for these awards,
despite tough competition from a pool of brilliant applications, is a mark of real
achievement for the Teaming up for Health Programme.

The project has been selected based on the diligence, ambition, and the positive
impact that it has had on both practitioners and patients within the health care
industry.

Craig Shepherd, Chief Executive Officer, Hull KR Foundation and James Price,
Head of Community Foundation, Hull FC Foundation said: “Being shortlisted for a
HSJ Partnership Award has given our teams further confidence in our project and
has ensured that our hard work is nationally recognised and the teams’ efforts and
relentless work is recognised.

“The partnership is not just about promoting rugby league participation, but uses the
brands of two of the city’s professional clubs along with their players, stadia, and
community teams to act as a catalyst to engage local people in quality interventions
that supported improved health and wellbeing outcomes.”

Erica Daley, Hull Place Director, Hull Health and Care Partnership, said: “I’m
delighted that the teams have been nominated for this award. This project is an
excellent example of how we work innovatively in Hull in partnership with our
voluntary sector to improve the health and wellbeing of people in our city.
Congratulations to everyone who is involved in delivering this life-changing
programme.”

HSJ editor, Alastair McLellan, comments: “We would like to congratulate the Hull KR
Foundation and Hull FC Foundation on being nominated in the category ‘Best Not for
Profit Working in Partnership with the NHS’ ahead of HSJ Partnership Awards 2023.

“We are looking forward to welcoming them to the ceremony in March, to join us in
recognising the very best collaborations and innovations in the healthcare sector.

“This year’s finalists are of an outstanding calibre and all of them are exceptionally
dedicated to enhancing healthcare across the UK.”

The winners will be selected following a rigorous judging stage ahead of the HSJ
Partnership Awards 2023 awards ceremony.

The awards evening is expected to be attended by national healthcare leaders and

professionals from both the NHS and private sector as well as figures from non-
clinical backgrounds to celebrate innovation and collaboration in healthcare.

The selected winners will be announced during a private ceremony at Evolution
London, on 23 March 2023.
