The summer holidays have arrived and there is a whole host of free activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy across the city’s fantastic museums and galleries.

From tours to trails, theatre performances to live music and more, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Hull Museums are inviting people to take part in activities on site, at home and across the city at the national Play Day Events.

Activities at the Museums Quarter include monster-themed maritime fun with live theatre performances and music.

A fun Medieval trail that guides visitors down High Street and the boardwalk by the River Hull, to discover some of the amazing medieval artefacts that have been found in the area, and a sensory trail and explorer packs to help younger visitors explore the Museums Quarter Gardens.

They have also created museum-themed activities for families to enjoy at home by once again teaming up with Hull City Council’s Healthy Lifestyles team to produce the summer edition of their Magical Museums activity booklet.

The booklet is absolutely free and can be downloaded here.

The Open Exhibition 2021 at Ferens Art Gallery.

There are lots to do for older visitors as well with two new exhibitions at the Ferens Art Gallery.

The Open Exhibition, showcasing the talents of amateur and professional artists can be seen on display until Sunday 3 October and the Pride in our City Exhibition, which explores Hull’s LGBTQ+ history and documents people’s experiences of being part of LGBTQ+ communities, opens on Saturday 14 August.

Leading up to the exhibition, the gallery has launched a brand-new LGBTQ+ trail highlighting queer narratives in the gallery’s collection and inviting visitors to consider key themes and histories, and think and chat about art, identity, gender, and sexuality.

Other highlights include volunteer-led tours that showcase Hull’s maritime heritage and take in the current and future Hull Yorkshire’s Maritime City project sites.

You can find out more info and book tickets for the tours here.

The full programme can be found here.

Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “There are lots of fantastic things happening across our galleries and museums this summer. As well as on-site activities, we will also be continuing to provide online activities that families and children can access from home.

“All of our activities and events are free, so I encourage everyone to get involved and make the most of them this year.”
