Freedom Festival starts in Hull this week – here’s everything you need to know

Hull’s famous international arts festival starts this week, so we’ve compiled a guide to help you make the most of it! It starts on Wednesday 28 Aug and runs until Sunday 1 Sep with new and different events each day, so mark your calendars and have a great time.

This year, Freedom have provided a number of different guides that you can access and download.

There’s a printed festival map/guide brochure, which you can pick up from various places around Hull city centre, or you can view online here.

There’s a dedicated accessibility page on the website too with info on blue badge parking, site access, accessible toilets, audio guides, and more! You can find it here.

There’s also the Freedom Festival app you can access here which is an easy way to make your way around the festival.

We’ve put together a short list of some of the top events taking place at Freedom Festival 2024 in Hull, so take a look below, see what you like, then use the app or printed guide to help you get there! You can also find the full list of events below too.

Eternity

Thursday 29 Aug 19:30 | Friday 30 Aug 19:00, 21:00 | Saturday 31 Aug 19:00

Step into Hull Minster and see it transformed as it sets the stage for an hour-long circus performance like no other! Created by the visionary Yaron Lifschitz and performed by members of the globally renowned Circa ensemble to the magical music of Arvo Pärt, Eternity goes beyond the physical capabilities of the human body.

Univers

Wednesday 28 Aug 10:30, 13:00 | Thursday 29 Aug 10:30 13:00 | Friday 30 Aug 10:30, 13:00

Perfect for babies and young children, Univers is a poetic and unique sensory experience, with music and visuals to delight everyone. Let your kids explore the immersive environment around them and make memories as they see the joy in the little things they find and learn to adapt to new situations.

Pram People

Saturday 31 Aug 11:30, 15:00 | Sunday 1 Sep 11:30, 15:00

A celebration of community, Pram People rolls out the red carpet for every pram, big or small. Directed by voices through a pair of headphones, secret messages, and other participants, pram users will come together to create a hilarious, serious and surprisingly moving performance. The immersive and colourful spectacle will bring Trinity Square to life, as the pram reclaims its place in public space and society.

Arch

Saturday 31 Aug 20:30 – 22:30

Witness the slow build-up and progression of Arch – with two thirds concrete, one third ice, these artists attempt to build a freestanding arch. What happens is straightforward; how it will make you feel is not. Accompanied by a vigil of human voices, this is an emotional journey examining the extraordinary, yet flawed systems humans create, the inevitable collapse, and its impact on ourselves and our eco-system.

The Freedom Music Stage

Back for another year in Zebedee’s Yard, experience live music brought to you by some of the city’s freshest talent emerging from Warren Records.

You can find the rest of the events here. Have a great Freedom Festival 2024!
