The Hull 4 Ukraine collective has issued a renewed appeal for people and businesses in Hull to continue giving generously to the humanitarian aid effort.

Over the past two weeks, the city’s communities have come together to collect and deliver aid to people affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The response has been overwhelming, and Hull 4 Ukraine’s organisers want to encourage people to keep donating as the situation in Ukraine worsens.

Anyone who would like to donate items should drop-off items at the following locations:

  • Former Staples building (side entrance), Myton Street, HU1 2PS (Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm);
  • The Freedom Centre, 97 Preston Rd, HU9 3QB (Mon-Fri, 10am-noon);
  • Eastside Community Sports Trust, Staithes Road, Preston, HU12 8DX (Mon-Fri, 11am-6pm).
  • North Bransholme Community Centre, Lothian Way, Hull HU7 5DD (Monday, Wednesday and Fridays 5pm-7pm

The Hull 4 Heroes shop in Whitefriargate and Living Hope Christian Church in Linnaeus Street are no longer accepting donations.

Organisers are currently asking that people donate items from the below list:

  • dried food, pasta, tinned goods, sweets, packet rice;
  • medication – painkillers, bandages, plasters, children’s paracetamol and first aid kits;
  • baby products and baby food
  • children’s warm clothing – hats, scarves, coats;
  • children’s small toys, cuddly toys, dolls, colouring books, crayons, picture books, very small jigsaws (no large plastic toys please);

Items NOT required (these will be turned away at this time):

  • adult clothing;
  • toiletries;
  • bedding.

Please do NOT bring any of the following items, as organisers are unable to ship these:

  • aerosols;
  • sanitiser;
  • matches;
  • perfumes;
  • razors;
  • bleach or cleaning products (corrosive products);
  • batteries.

Hull for Ukraine is also appealing to local businesses for food and refreshments for the volunteers who have worked tirelessly sorting donations to be transported to Ukraine and surrounding countries.

Donations for volunteers can be taken to the former Staples building (side entrance) on Myton Street.

Hull City Council has partnered with Hull 4 Ukraine and Hull 4 Heroes to support the local coordinated aid effort.

Councillor Hester Bridges, deputy leader of Hull City Council, said: “It has been humbling and overwhelming to see the number of volunteers from our area working at the drop-off centre.

“Local people are putting their own time aside to help with packing and organising at the centre for Ukraine.

“We are asking today if any local businesses are able to support the voluntary effort with food and drinks. It would be hugely appreciated and very welcome.”

Hull 4 Ukraine was set up by Magda Moses and others in response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The initiative is being led by Hull’s community and voluntary organisations. Veterans’ charity Hull 4 Heroes is supporting the logistical side of the local response and has also set up an online fundraiser to support the purchase of medical supplies and transportation.

The initiative is also being supported by Hull safety equipment supplier Arco.
