Fun things to do around Hull during the Summer holidays

Finally, the summer holidays have arrived and lots of students can look forward to having time off for relaxing and recovering from a busy year. Plus, this is also the perfect time to go out and explore some great activities that will be fun for all of the family!

Visit East Park

As Hull’s biggest park, East Park is full of things to do this summer! As well as its usual water-based activities like their splash boat ride and swan boat pedalo, they have recently refurbished their water play and that has now been reopened, ready for the summer. There’s also the Animal Education Centre, where you can see animals from all over the world right here in Hull!

Watch Something at the Cinema

We are very lucky to have some amazing cinemas near us, so we can enjoy popcorn and movies on a big screen whenever we want. The cinemas, Odeon Luxe, Vue, Reel, and Cineworld, are all open and playing some top new movies such as Black Widow, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Suicide Squad and Jungle Cruise. You can have a nice family outing to the cinema or, if you’re going to Vue or Reel, you can use it as a nice conclusion to a day of shopping in Hull City Centre.

Go to The Deep

This is probably Hull’s most famous attraction, and its unique shape certainly helps it stick in the mind. The Deep is a great place to enjoy marine life with friends and family, as it is home to 5000 animals! Not only is it a great educational attraction, but The Deep is also a place for conservation and protecting the ocean. You need to book ahead, which can be done here.

Visit Hull’s Museums and Art Galleries

Hull is full of culture and art, with dozens of museums like the Maritime Museum or Wilberforce House Museum, which celebrates Hull’s history. There is also the Ferens Art Gallery and Humber Street Gallery, which will have lots of exhibitions over the summer to display beautiful pieces of art for you. As well, StreetLife Museum is celebrating Hull FC in their FC150 exhibition.

Go Bowling

For a fun pack of activities this summer, you should go to Superbowl UK. Not only does it have 12 lanes for bowling, there are arcade games, pool tables, and you have the option to book for Superbowl’s laser quest or soft play Crazy Club when you book online here.

You might prefer Hollywood Bowl at Kingswood Leisure Park, which has 26 bowling lanes, an American themed diner, an amusements arcade and a bar. It’s a perfect chance to compete and have fun with your friends and family, and it will b a great way to spend your summer!

Attend a Festival

Hull is going to be a centre for festivals this summer. This includes our local favourites: Freedom Festival, Humber Street Sesh and Tribfest, as well as more musical talent in Cottingham Folk Festival and all the food and drink you could want at East Park’s Feastival. Have a look at all the festivals happening in Hull and East Riding this summer.

Play Mini Golf

With the unfortunate timing of opening up in early 2020, Putt Club Crazy Golf has been closed for most of the pandemic. Now that lockdown is over and restrictions have been lifted, you will be able to enjoy the 9 hole, motorsport themed golf course for much longer! You need to book ahead, which can be done here.

If you’d prefer an indoor adventure golf course, the Lost City Adventure Golf recently opened up in St Stephens. It has an Aztec jungle theme, including an opening and closing skull that you have to try and get your ball under. There are two different courses for you to choose from, but they are both 18 holes.

If You Want to Travel a Little Further…

The Zoo

Whilst East Park has its own Animal Education Centre, you may want to go out and explore a zoo a bit further away. In that case, you may want to visit Bridlington Animal Park. Or, if you fancy a theme park as well as a zoo, how about Chessington World of Adventures and Flamingo Land? Check out these zoos that are worth traveling to.

Sewerby Hall and Gardens

Sewerby Hall was built in 1714-1720 and has since become an architectural tour through history, full of interesting and educational stories that are sure to keep you entertained. With the summer weather, you will love walking through the picturesque and award-winning Gardens that Sewerby Hall is famed for. Plus, they also have a zoo, with racoon dogs, llamas, capuchin monkeys, and so many more! You can plan your trip here.

Find Your Way Through a Maze

Thornton Abbey Maze will be running from July to September this summer. They have quiz boards and bridges to help you navigate the maze, as well as smaller six-minute mazes in the courtyard, which also has refreshments and a children’s electric tractor maze.

You could also go to the nearby York Maze, which is the UK’s largest maze. As well as that, there are 20 different rides, attractions and shows to give you and your family a fun day out this summer.

Go to a Beach

The classic summer holiday destination has to be the beach, and there are lots of them in East Yorkshire. Whether you’re staying in a caravan or popping up for the day, it’s always fun to spend time at the beach. You can bask in the warm weather, go swimming, make sandcastles, have a scenic walk and you’re never far from fish and chips and ice cream. What’s not to love? You can check out some of the best East Yorkshire beaches here.
