The leaves are turning golden, there’s a chill in the air (I am still not putting my heating on though so I’m typing in a lot of layers!), therefore it must be nearly…. Halloween! The school’s break up next Friday 21st October for half term so here is a roundup of what’s on for families locally during the school holiday and for Halloween.

Places to Pick a Pumpkin Around Hull & East Yorkshire

Photo by Patrick Fore on Unsplash.

We love going to a pick your own field for our pumpkins and have already amounted a few for our front doorstep ready to carve nearer the time. There’s a handy guide here with our local pick your own places for 2022. My highlights are –

  • The Pumpkin Patch at Bewholme – the farm shop is open daily and pick your own is running at weekends and throughout half term week. This one is ideal to combine with an Autumn beach walk as it’s close to the coast. No pre-booking to pick or shop (pre-book for carving experiences).
  • Sandy Bottom Pumpkins – just outside Hedon, this is a huge pumpkin field plus a maize maze, sunflowers to pick and food stalls. Picking slots need pre-booking. We got some amazing shapes and colours of pumpkins from here last weekend!
  • Butt Farm Pumpkin Patch Beverley – their pick your own fields are open Friday-Monday and all of half term week, no pre-booking needed.
  • The Balloon Tree – farmshop, cafe and PYO fields at Stamford Bridge, more on this further down.
  • Thornton Abbey Maze – on the south bank at Ulceby, there are PYO pumpkins plus a maize maze and play area. Open weekends and all of half term week, no pre-booking needed.
