Have a ‘Wonderful Winter’ at Humber Bridge Country Park and Hessle Mill

There will be a chance to take a little time out this busy December and enjoy a midwinter visit to the woods of the Humber Bridge Country Park.

Visitors will be able to enjoy making some beautiful natural decorations for Christmas or outdoor trees, and step inside Hessle Mill on the foreshore which is open on Sunday, 19 December, between 10am and 12pm, and 1pm and 3pm.

Those attending will be able to walk into the country park for a drop-in workshop to make Christmas tree decorations using natural materials. They will be invited to select and cut a fresh willow stem from the living willow screens at the bird feeding station, and environmental artist Michele will guide visitors to make festive stars, wands, snowflakes and mini-woven trees. The event is suitable for adults, and children too.

At the mill, younger visitors will be challenged to spot all the red robins who are hiding inside, and climb up to the upper levels for winter-themed storytelling, activity sheets and popular colouring-in.

There will also be a chance to meet the Victorian mill and quarry owner, Mr William Hearfield, who is making a surprise visit! Visitors can come and ask him about the times when the country park was his chalk quarry, and broad sails turned on his mighty mill.

Hessle Mill is on Hessle Foreshore, next to the Humber Bridge Country Park Local Nature Reserve.  There is no need to book for this free event – just drop in between the times shown.
