Heritage project shines a light on gateway to Hull’s old town

A new lighting scheme installed on Whitefriargate is now complete.

The façade lighting has been installed on four buildings to highlight the street’s architecture and heritage.

Number’s 4-6, 24-28, 40-43 and 55 Whitefriargate have all benefitted from the project which was funded by Historic England through the High Street Heritage Action Zone.

Garry Taylor, assistant director for regeneration, culture and place at Hull City Council said: “The new lighting is another way we are investing in making this key pedestrian gateway to the old town more attractive for visitors.

“Whether that’s shopping in the daytime or enjoying the thriving hospitality offer in the evening.

“We have some stunning architecture on Whitefriargate of key local history and applying lighting like this helps to brings it to visitors attention.”

Craig Broadwith from Historic England added: “We are pleased to be supporting the new lighting on Whitefriargate through the High Street Heritage Action Zone.

“The scheme will help to showcase the street’s impressive historic buildings and make it a more attractive and enjoyable place to visit.”

The lighting is now on each evening until 11pm.
