Four members of the HEY LEP Board are set to steer the newly-formed sub-Boards of the LEP, focusing on different aspects of the Hull and East Yorkshire economy.

Development Director at Wren Kitchens, Stephen Parnaby

The appointments were agreed at yesterday’s HEY LEP Board meeting, with Deputy LEP Chair and Business Development Director at Wren Kitchens, Stephen Parnaby, appointed as Chair of the Infrastructure Board and HEY LEP Board member and University of Hull’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Susan Lea, as Chair of the Innovation and Transformation Board.

In addition, Jayne Adamson, LEP Board member and People Director at Humber Coast and Vale Partnership, is to chair the Employment and Skills Board and Gill Alton, LEP Board member and CEO of the TEC Partnership, is to lead the Business Support Board.

The ESB will focus on reducing the skills gaps in the region, delivering the  recommendations of the Local Skills Report by creating the foundations for the  growth of new jobs in the region, in addition to ensuring that young people receive  high quality careers advice.

The Business Support Board’s role is to ensure that businesses can receive and  access advice, finance and other support to sustain and develop their organisations to flourish, whatever their size and sector.

The Infrastructure Board will look at future investment opportunities for the region as  well as have a focus on transport and placed-based property developments and bring together government agencies, where required, to expedite these  developments.

Currently, the LEP is recruiting for members for these sub-Boards. Applying for a  place on one of the LEP’S sub-Boards is an opportunity for anyone with valuable  lived experience in such sectors as digital, SME and social enterprise within the  region’s business community to help shape the economic direction of Hull and East  Yorkshire.

The Innovation and Transformation Board is currently being developed by the LEP – this is a new Board to the region and will focus on promoting and sharing innovation  within the business community, utilising the academic and research strengths of our  region’s University and colleges. It will also identify major projects or technologies, which could transform the region and ensure these opportunities are developed.

As the new Local Enterprise Partnership for the Hull and East Yorkshire region, HEY  LEP is forming these sub-Boards to support and influence the work of the main LEP  Board as they develop and implement an economic strategy for the new HEY region  in conjunction with its public sector partners.

The creation of the sub-Boards come after the LEP appointed the Business  Engagement Board (BEB) as its key private sector Advisory Partner. The BEB will  provide a coordinated voice for the region’s business community and will be  available to be consulted by the LEP Board and its sub-Boards on economic issues  affecting the private sector in the region.

Chair of the HEY LEP Board, James Newman

James Newman, Chair of the HEY LEP Board, said: “I am delighted that we have  been able to appoint four excellent chairs of our new sub-Boards. Each of them  brings with them significant leadership experience and knowledge of the region.

“Every sub-Board will play an important role in supporting the LEP Board in its  various activities of developing and implementing the economic strategy for the  region and monitoring progress on the strategy and other programmes being  delivered by the LEP on behalf of the Government and Local Authorities.”
