Hull City Council has agreed to hire a building specialist from the city to lead the next stage of the £1.2 Hull Arena revamp.

The local authority has awarded an engineering and construction contract to the city’s JP Developers for essential building maintenance.

It is part of a £1.2 fund allocated for the refurbishment of the arena from the council’s capital programme.

The council has already awarded contracts to Ice Tech UK for a new ice pad and air system at the rink.

The works are expected to be completed in early September ahead of the reopening.

The council is working closely with ice hockey clubs, figure skaters and other customers, as well as with the English Ice Hockey Association to try to ensure the works do not affect National Ice Hockey League fixtures hosted at the arena.

Councillor Daren Hale, Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for land and property, said: “JP Developers is a trusted local firm with a good reputation.

“These works will ensure that the Hull Arena, one of the city’s most popular sport and entertainment venues, will look better than it ever has when it reopens very soon.”
