The Hull Cinemas that have Reopened, Prices & What’s On Right Now

One of the things we’ve all been waiting for is for Hull’s cinemas to finally reopen! In fact, according to research before the latest lockdown step, Cinema was the biggest thing we all missed and couldn’t wait to reopen. Well now, we can finally go out and get the full experience of getting completely lost in another world with dark rooms, comfy seats and as much popcorn as we want. Here are the cinemas in Hull you can now get back to.

Odeon Luxe

Kingston Park | Website

Lets be honest, for years the Odeon Cinema in Hull was, well, a bit ‘worse for wear’ to put it mildly. Broken, uncomfortable seats were in every screen, the decor was dull and screens and sound quality wasn’t the best.

But in late 2018, Odeon invested millions revamping the whole place to create Hull’s very first (and still only) luxury cinema. It’s now famed for its extremely comfy reclining seats, vast amounts of leg room, great food and even a bar. Odeon’s special branded iSense screens have been installed and the sound has been sorted too.

It does have the most expensive tickets out of all of the cinemas in Hull & East Yorkshire, but my goodness it’s worth it! And when you put it in perspective, it’s still not that bad, especially for the luxury. You can get tickets as cheap as £6 for adults off-peak, with £10 the most expensive at peak times. That’s incredible value considering what you get. Parking is free too, oh and they accept Meerkat Movies 2-for-1 discount on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so you can split the cost with a friend.

There are some films perfect for the family right now, like Peter Rabbit 2, Disney’s Cruella, and Raya and The Last Dragon. There are some that you’ll be scared to watch in the dark like The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and the Unholy. There’s also the Irish black comedy thriller, Pixie. Odeon is also playing a lot of old favourites: the classic Thelma & Louise, and The Terminator 1 and 2. There will be a film for everyone!

You can book tickets online here, but you can also buy tickets at the cinema.

Reel Cinema

St Stephens, Hull city centre | Website

From the most expensive, to the best for when you’re on a tight budget. Reel Cinema is the most convenient cinema to go to after a day shopping in St Stephens! They’re reopened with all tickets at just £2.50 before 1pm and £3.50 after! It’s not the comfiest, or the best for picture and sound quality, but it’s decent enough. And as the new releases start coming out, and money is tight, it means you don’t have to miss out.

Now they’ve re-opened, there are films playing from every single possible genre; for action addicts, there is the new Mortal Kombat or Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai. If it’s horror your heart’s aching for, you can watch Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Those Who Wish Me Dead or The Conjuring.

For a family trip, If you prefer family or animation films, then you can watch Peter Rabbit 2, Tom & Jerry, or Cruella. The award-winning drama Nomadland is also playing, as is the Sci-Fi/Fantasy film Godzilla vs Kong. If you’re interested in ballet, they are playing The Sleeping Beauty. And if opera’s your thing, there’s Tosca Live from La Scala.

You can book tickets online here, but you can also buy tickets at the cinema.

Vue

Princes Quay | Website

Vue Cinema at Princes Quay in Hull has the best viewing experience with fantastic digital screens and Dolby 6.1 surround sound

A great all-rounder, Vue is a fantastic cinema that’s not only great value, but amazing for the cinema experience itself. It doesn’t have reclining seats, but you do get an excellent position with stadium-like multiplex seating. The 10 digital screens are probably the best in Hull, the Dolby 6.1 Surround Sound is fantastic and the seats are still quite comfy – all for £4.99 a ticket (2for1 Meerkat Movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

There are a limited number of VIP seats available in each screen for just £1.50 extra which are leather seats, give you more leg room, your own arm rests (rather than sharing) and in optimal viewing position. It’s a good cinema to go after work or shopping as it’s on the very top deck of Princes Quay. Oh and parking is free after 6pm.

Vue has got all the latest releases playing right now, such as Cruella, Peter Rabbit 2, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, The Little Things, Godzilla vs Kong and Those Who Wish Me Dead. However, it’s also playing an abundance of all the films that we love. For example, this week they’ll be playing Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings, Total Recall (30th Anniversary 4k Restoration), Taxi Driver and Gladiator. So, if you want to relive that cinematic experience of watching your favourites for the first time, this is the place to be.

You can book tickets online here, but you can also buy tickets at the cinema.

Cineworld

Kingswood Leisure Park | Website

Cineworld is a wonderful cinema to go to. It has the largest screens out of all Hull cinemas and, if you want to make a day out of it, there are plenty of restaurants around Kingswood as well as Hollywood Bowl next door for bowling, arcades and pool. Now it’s back open, they’ve reduced ticket prices to just £5.99 each plus there’s lots of free parking available right outside it.

It will be playing lots of the new films, such as A Quiet Place 2, Godzilla vs Kong, Cruella, Peter Rabbit 2, Tom & Jerry, and Judas and the Black Messiah. Also, in June there will be a chance to get Unlimited Screening for In the Heights, Nobody, Supernova and Another Round.

You can book tickets online here, but you can also buy tickets at the cinema.

And the Outdoor Cinema!

Going to and Outdoor Cinema is a wonderful way to end our year full of social distancing and closed cinemas. In summer, there will be two coming close to the area from the Adventure Cinema company, and all of them are sing-a-long musicals.

The first will be in Sewerby Hall. On the 28 August at 8.30 PM there will be a sing-a-long to The Greatest Showman, which was one of the most popular films in cinema when it was released. Then they will be playing Grease on the 29 August at 8.30 PM.

You can buy your tickets here.

The second Outdoor Cinema will be in Hull College Carven Park. They will also be playing Grease on the 18th September at 8 PM. Another favourite, Mamma Mia, will be played at 8 PM on 19th September.

You can buy your tickets here.
