Preparations are now underway in Hull city centre, where it will be awash with red, white and blue for the King’s Royal Coronation.

On Saturday 6 May, the coronation of King Charles III will be shown on big screens from Hull City Hall balcony and Trinity Market, alongside a full day of activities and celebrations planned across the city centre.

From 10am street theatre and performance will bring Queen Victoria Square, King Edward St and Beverley Gate to life.

Sand sculptures, circus skills, royal-themed craft workshops and assault courses will provide something for all ages, whilst HEY volunteers signpost visitors to activities and hand-out keepsakes to mark this momentous day in history. A picnic area complete with grassed area and benches will be created for families to enjoy lunch and may even receive a special royal cookie or an ice cream!

Local art organisation Back to Ours will take over Beverley Gate, with a royal street entertainment treat for audiences of all ages.

Over in Hull Minster there will also be a screening of the coronation in a quieter session. The Minster will also host a tea party on the Bank Holiday Monday (8 May), whilst, in Trinity Square, a vintage market and car display will be on offer.

Royal-themed artworks and poetry provided by pupils at Hull’s primary schools will be on display in the minster across the weekend.

As a key date in the country’s history, any child born in the Women and Childrens’ Hospital in Hull during the coronation month of May will be presented a commemorative coin when the baby’s birth is registered.

Babies born in May 23 will receive a coin when the birth is registered.
