FROEBEL House is a small, independent primary school, based in the Avenues in Hull and has been serving families for over a hundred and fifteen years.
It has been described as “the best show in town’’ and parent testimonials regularly say that sending their child to Froebel was one of the best decisions they ever made.
The approach to teaching has a keen focus on strong principles, respect, discipline and clear expectations and standards for all students. The Froebel community share the school’s values, appreciate ‘the family feel’ and embrace the high standards the school promotes.
The school’s reception class has been praised by both OFSTED and Hull City County Council for its curriculum design and child centred approach and, despite the disruption of the past year, the children have thrived within the classroom setting and have progressed remarkably well. The school continues to record extremely impressive, standardised test scores for numeracy and literacy, with annual results, including the very latest, that are generally between 15 to 20 per cent above national averages, across each of the school’s year groups. Considering the pandemic and the constraints placed on learning forced on so many school communities, the results are outstanding. Froebel’s Headteacher, Andy Roberts, has praised the school’s teachers for the effort and thought they put into their classes’ differentiated learning packs throughout the lockdown and the way in which the Froebel community supported the school’s efforts (and their children in the process). “The school is what it is because of the efforts of the teaching and support staff to nurture and guide our young learners positively every day, and, of course, the trust our parent community places in us which allows everybody to use their experience and skill to teach,’’ he said.
What is the key to the school’s success?
The philosophy of Froebel is to provide a firm foundation upon which all aspects of education are built. It is the school’s belief that education is a route to spiritual, moral, social, cultural, physical, and mental development and well-being. We believe in equal opportunities for all children in our school, irrespective of social background, culture, race, gender or ability. To ensure future progress and success, the aim is to provide a curriculum that is broad and balanced.
Small class sizes and well qualified and highly experienced teachers.
Small class sizes have many advantages. Froebel teachers can really focus instruction and as a result, can nurture each student as an individual and to differentiate instruction accordingly. A small class size also means students get to know each other well, allowing them to develop deep, genuine, and lasting relationships, within a safe and caring environment. Froebel has a very low turnover of staff which ensures continuity and stability. The teachers have a wealth of experience, are highly qualified and the expectations they place upon themselves are extremely high.
Traditional values.
Froebel has high standards and expectations for all its children. Children are taught- and expected to value and uphold – a sense of fairness and kindness, personal responsibility, a strong work ethic and the importance of being selfless. The children are also taught that having good manners costs nothing and that self-discipline and a strong worth ethic are integral to an individual’s success.
A safe & nurturing environment:
The school is immensely proud of its safe and nurturing environment. Froebel has an outstanding daily attendance record, reflecting the desire of students to attend school. One of the reasons for this being is that the school has zero tolerance towards any nature of bullying and prides itself on the fact that its diverse and multi-faith community arrive at school every day, knowing that their learning experience is going to be a focused and enjoyable experience.
