Schools start back next week for the new school year, and the Hull Learning Partnership wants to ensure families know what to expect upon return.

Many national Covid restrictions have been relaxed, however in Hull, colleges and Academy Trusts continue to work with public health to ensure they continue to do all they can to help prevent transmission of Covid.

Jo Moxon, Head of Education said: “We are really looking forward to the start of a new year, where we can focus on education for our children. The return to school will bring many social and emotional benefits for children and we hope there will be less disruption to face to face education.

“We are also keen to let families know that, as a city, we will be doing what we can do prevent transmission of Covid in schools.”

Public health will continue to work with schools, colleges and Academy Trusts and will suggest temporary measures to prevent transmission if needed.

Families can also help prevent the risk of Covid transmission in schools by –

  • If a student has symptoms, stay home and book a PCR test
  • Secondary age students and all adults taking LFT tests twice a week
  • Keep in touch with school about illness and other concerns

Helen Christmas, public health lead for children and young people said: “It’s great that this term should be less disrupted. However, Covid levels in Hull remain high, so although lots of the restrictions have been removed, we do still need to take care to minimise the numbers of people becoming poorly with Covid.

“I’d encourage everyone to continue to wash their hands often, wear a face covering in crowded spaces, stay at home if they’re unwell, and keep up routine LFT testing for adults and secondary age students.”

Councillor Shane McMurray, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services said: “I wish all of our students and teaching staff a good start to the new school year. We will continue to work together to help children and young people achieve their full potential.“

All Academy Trusts work together through the Hull Learning Partnership.
