Hull Maritime Foundation has appointed five new trustees to drive the charity forward.
The independent charity, set up in 2018 to support the assets, sites and programmes of Hull Maritime Museum and Hull Maritime, wanted to broaden its networks and strengthen its expertise in fundraising and marketing; investments and charity law and governance.
Through its recent trustee recruitment initiative, the Foundation has swelled its ranks with experience from the legal, UK shipping, culture and heritage-led regeneration, advertising and marketing, planning and academic sectors.
Hull Maritime Foundation Chairman, Lord Haskins of Skidby, said: “We are delighted to welcome our new trustees to the board, who between them bring a wealth of expertise and experience as well as enthusiasm and new ideas to bolster our fundraising efforts for the Hull Maritime project.
“We would also like to thank our outgoing Trustee, Charlie Spencer OBE, who contributed guidance and governance as the Foundation has developed since its beginning in 2018.”
The new Trustee appointments to the Board are:
- David Atkinson, Professor of Cultural and Historical Geography at University of Hull
- Daniel O’Gorman, Partner, Walker Morris LLP
- Rosslyn Stuart, Independent Consultant (Planning, Regeneration & Heritage)
- Jonathan Tasker, former Advertising Sales Director (now retired)
- Matthew Wright, Policy Manager at UK Chamber of Shipping
Rosslyn Stuart, Independent Consultant, Planning, Regeneration & Heritage, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed a Trustee at a key point in the evolution of Hull Maritime project, and to support the visionary programmes of area enhancement and social investment, underpinned by community support, which I believe will be transformational for Hull.
“It is a city people are passionate about, and it has a remarkable story to tell. With a background in heritage-led regeneration I look forward to helping bring about the revitalisation of its maritime quarter and widening awareness of Hull’s cultural life and economic vitality both nationally and internationally.”
Daniel O’Gorman grew up in Hull, and regularly visited the museum as a child and has very fond memories of attending courses and events in the museum during school holidays. He said: “The work of the Hull Maritime Project is a very important project for the city of Hull and beyond.
“Having enjoyed and benefited from the work of the museum growing up, I am delighted to be able to support the Hull Maritime Project and excited to see completion of the restoration work and visitors, new and old, being inspired by Hull’s history and heritage.”
