A grant scheme designed to engage local residents through exploring Hull’s maritime story has been unveiled.

The Hull Maritime project has launched its first round of micro and small grants supporting community groups and freelancers. Groups and individuals may either be connected to Hull’s maritime story in the core work that they do, or apply for funds to run a maritime themed project.

The grants are offered in three categories: Environmental, Heritage and Wellbeing, reflecting important and timely themes and drawing links between our past, present and futures.  Micro grants of up to £500 and small grants of up to £2,000 will be awarded to successful ideas that will engage with our local communities in the most impactful and effective way.

Each grant can support one off core costs or a discrete project. Future funding rounds are planned as the Maritime project progresses.

Councillor Daren Hale, Leader of Hull City Council and Portfolio Holder for Economic Investment, Regeneration, Planning, Land and Property, said: “The Hull Maritime project is keen to support existing and potential partners to play an active role in celebrating Hull’s maritime heritage.

“Hull is a creative city and applications from grassroots organisations should offer opportunities to reach local communities and make a positive difference.”

There is a six-week application period and the deadline for applications is Sunday 5 December.
