With spring just around the corner, Hull Theatres once again raises the curtain on another new season of world-class live entertainment featuring the best in musical theatre, dance, comedy and music.
The view from Hull New Theatre’s balcony will be sensational as Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet (25 – 29 July) gives Shakespeare’s timeless classic of forbidden love a scintillating injection of raw passion and youthful vitality.
Speaking of star-crossed lovers The Bodyguard (10 -15 July) sees Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton fall for Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star Ayden Callaghan as he ensures they have more than One Moment in Time.
Returning by royal appointment is Rodgers and Hammerstien’s The King and I (2-6 May) and the Tudor Queens from SIX (23-26 May), while Baz Luhmann’s Strictly Ballroom takes to the floor (6-11 March), and Titanic The Musical makes its maiden voyage into the venue (29 May – 3 June).
Also making her debut is South Africa’s award-winning Dada Masilo with her ground-breaking show Sacrifice (7 & 8 April), while the clock is ticking for the Final Countdown on the farewell tour of Rock of Ages (16 -20 May) and fabulous family entertainment with The Tiger Who Came to Tea (12 – 14 May).
Across the city, Hull City Hall cements its standing as one of the region’s premiere stand up venues with sets from Gary Meikle (4 March), Rhys James (8 March), Sara Pascoe (17 March), Henning When (24 March), Frankie Boyle (12 June), and double dates from Paul Smith (29 & 30 March) and Tom Allen (26 & 27 May).
There’s also showstopping music from the Levellers (16 March), Boyzlife (5 May) and the Proclaimers (21 May) and cutting-edge punk poetry from John Cooper Clarke (18 May).
Plus, the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club returns with its monthly showcase of new comedians and the Hull City Hall Classics series continues with concerts from the Swedish Philharmonia (23 March), Royal Philharmonic (4 May and 15 June) and the Hull Philharmonic (13 May).
