Hull & EY in Tier 3 – What We Can & Can’t Do After 2nd December

Given the high number of infections in Hull & East Yorkshire right now, it’s no surprise that today, the government have confirmed that our region along with a number of others around the UK, will be in Tier Three restrictions when lockdown ends next Wednesday 2nd December.

The bad news is that Tier Three restrictions aren’t too much different to the UK’s current lockdown rules.

All retail will now be allowed to open, not just those selling essential items, and gyms and indoor leisure will be able to reopen. Outdoor classes, exercise and sports groups can play together too.

However, we still won’t be able to mix indoors with other households. Indoor entertainment venues and attractions like The Deep and the various different museums we have will need to remain closed.

All pubs, bars and restaurants will still be restricted from offering eating and drinking inside, but will continue to be able to offer takeaway, delivery and drive-thru.

Hotels and places to stay will need to remain closed with limited exceptions and we’ll all still need to avoid travelling in and out of the area.

The good news is that Tier Three areas will be eligible for rapid or “lateral flow” coronavirus tests, which give results in about 20 minutes without the need for a lab. This will help bring down infections and eventually reduce restrictions.

Our region will also be offered support by NHS Test and Trace as well as the armed forces to deliver a six-week rapid community testing programme. In Liverpool, a recent trial took place there and was successful in reducing cases by around 75% in a matter of weeks and will now enter Tier Two when lockdown ends next week.

No doubt, if the same happens here and we can all work together right now, infections will reduce in the same way and we can get our attractions and restaurants back open.

The government have published their full tiered restrictions guide on the gov.uk website.
