Hull to welcome Ukrainian refugees

Hull City Council has today welcomed the Government’s announcement of a scheme to provide homes and assistance to those fleeing the shocking and senseless invasion of Ukraine.

Leader of the Council, Daren Hale, said:

“As a City of Sanctuary, Hull has a long and proud history of supporting people in their hour of need.  We have already seen an amazing response to the Hull4Ukraine appeal and now we are being asked to do more by welcoming people into our city and our homes as they seek refuge from the violence and horror of the war.

“The council is absolutely committed to working with local residents, communities, voluntary organisations and businesses to help Ukrainian families find shelter and safety in our country and our city.  We look  forward to receiving detailed information on the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme from the Government to understand how it will operate in practice.  In the meantime, we are working closely with Migration Yorkshire and other partners in Hull and the wider region to ensure that we are ready to respond quickly and effectively.

“We stand firm with the people of Ukraine and will do everything possible to ensure that refugees have the right help and support when they arrive in our city.”
