Hull’s Bee Lady added to Heritage Bus art

Bus company East Yorkshire has updated its Hull Heritage Bus to include another famous face and building.

The bus, which was unveiled in 2016, portrays some of the region’s best known personalities and landmarks, including pilot Amy Johnson, poet Philip Larkin, and anti-slavery activist William Wilberforce.

The special bus livery has now had a new panel added featuring Hull’s “Bee Lady”, Jean Bishop, and the Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre.

East Yorkshire employee Keith Holmes, who designed and painted the bus, was inspired to add Jean Bishop to the design after reading stories about her incredible feats of fundraising, following her death at the age of 99 this autumn.

“I really want the design of the bus to educate people about the great characters and landmarks of Hull,” he said.

“The city’s residents have so much to be proud of, so I want everyone to remember that every time they see the Heritage Bus.

“Jean Bishop devoted her life to helping others, and the Jean Bishop ICC is doing some fantastic work in caring for the city’s elderly, so I felt it was only right to add them to the portraits on the bus.”

Emma Todd (Estates Team Leader, Citycare), Tammy and Heather (CHCP ICC staff), Ben Gilligan (Area Director, East Yorkshire Buses), Keith Holmes (Artist and East Yorkshire Buses employee), Megan Gay and Clare Cornelius (Estates Assistants, Citycare).

Citycare Estates Assistant Clare Cornelius added: “When East Yorkshire approached us to get involved in their tribute to Hull icon Jean Bishop, we were honoured.

“Jean is an inspiration, and her legacy lives on with the ICC.  We’re delighted to see her featured on the bus, and are proud to have the ICC as its backdrop.”

The Hull Heritage Bus can be seen out and about across the city and East Yorkshire, and photos of the new bus can be seen at eastyorkshirebuses.co.uk
