Nothing beats a Sunday roast, and it’s even better if you don’t have to do the cooking (or the washing up). There are lots of great restaurants across Hull & East Yorkshire offering a wonderfully cooked Sunday roast; whether you’re a vegetable fanatic, a potato piler, a gravy drowner, or a meat connoisseur.
We asked our readers to tell us about their favourite place to get a delicious Sunday dinner and whilst some practical jokers told us that their houses served the best roast, some of our fans came up with some great suggestions. So with their recommendations, our own experience and a great deal of research, we’ve created our ultimate Top 10 Sunday Roasts in Hull & East Yorkshire.
The Minerva
Nelson St, Hull Marina
Open Mon – Sat 11:30am – 11pm & Sun 12pm – 11pm
The Minerva is an historical pub, situated in Hull’s beautiful marina, with some of the best beer-battered fish and chips, and steak pie in the city.
Their Sunday lunch menu includes a choice of beef, pork, lamb or chicken served with all the trimmings. What are these trimmings you ask? We’re talking homemade Yorkshire puddings, ‘beef dripping’ crispy roast potatoes, mash, and a selection of freshly cooked veg.
There’s also a smaller portion available as well as a vegetarian roast which comes with 3 veggie sausages and a jug of vegetarian gravy.
They also offer an exceptional range of cask ales, fine wine, a bespoke Cocktail list, and continental beers for when you want to take the edge off. Head to the Minerva and find out why it won a Traveller’s Choice award on Tripadvisor this weekend.

Larkin’s Bar is a staple to the Newland Avenue ecosystem. It’s fantastic for drinks, food and generally a great time. Plus if you’re lucky, you may spot a market in it’s beer garden. In-fact, it’s one of our favourite beer garden’s in the city.
Larkin’s is cosy, with courteous staff and generous portions. It also won a Traveller’s Choice award on TripAdvisor. The bar serves an incredible Sunday carvery and according to WhatsOnHub fans, it has some of the smoothest and most delicious mashed potatoes ever.

After becoming an internet sleuth to find their actual menu (turns out it’s buried in their Facebook page and not on their website) it’s easy to see why The Whittington & Cat is such a Hull hit with a wide range of courses to fit anyone’s expectations on a Sunday. It’s good value too with a full Sunday roast at just £6.95.
