Hull’s East Park and Pearson Park celebrate prestigious Green Flag Awards

Hull City Council is celebrating Green Flag Awards for East Park and Pearson Park, as they retain the coveted status for another year.

The news that the two iconic sites achieved the accreditation is testament to the hard work and dedication of the teams that care for the green spaces so that residents can enjoy them.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under license from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces – setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Paul Todd MBE, Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at East Park and Pearson Park in achieving a Green Flag Award.

“East Park and Pearson Park are vital green spaces for the community in Hull, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles.

“The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that they maintain the high standards of the Green Flag Award, and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”

The two parks join the list of top green spaces, which includes listings as diverse as Mayfield Park in Southampton, Cockington Country Park in Torquay, and Queen’s Park in London.

Councillor Rob Pritchard, the Hull City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure, said: “Both East Park and Pearson Park are iconic to Hull and play a key part in the city’s history, so it is fantastic to see them recognised as the attributes that they are.

“We are incredibly proud of the hard-working staff that have contributed to maintaining the Green Flag status.”

Councillor Julia Conner, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “Keeping busy parks in a city clean and tidy can be extremely challenging, but the teams work tirelessly to ensure that everyone in Hull has a park to enjoy.

“It’s hugely satisfying that their work has been commended by Keep Britain Tidy.”
