Hull West and Hessle MP, Emma Hardy has announced today that the Humber Bridge Board are going to reopen the footpaths of the Humber Bridge at 5am Thursday morning.

The footpaths were closed on 3rd of April following a number of suicides in March.

Hardy announced that the footpaths will now open everyday between 5am and 9pm and those who want to cross out of those times will need to contact the Humber Bridge Board.

The bridge’s CCTV has been upgraded and more volunteers are being put on. Also, a new ‘well-being hub’ has been opened today and is being staffed by people from Mind and the Bearded Fishermen.

In her Facebook post, Hardy said: “I agree with the many comments I have received about the bridge that say we need a physical solution too and so I will continue to meet regularly with the Chair for progress updates on this.

“I also agree with the many comments people have made about the general need for more mental health support and investment I promise to keep raising this in parliament.

“I would like to thank the Humber Bridge Board for how quickly they have acted following the closure and in particular the staff who work on the Humber Bridge for the work they do everyday to try and keep us safe.”
