KCOM is set to become part of the furniture for local charities as it hosts and open day to give away its old office equipment.

The East Yorkshire-based broadband supplier will open the doors to its Bransholme exchange on Tuesday, 5 October, where local charities and voluntary groups will be able to pick up everything from quality office chairs and desks to tables, filing cabinets and cupboards.

KCOM has joined forces with Hull-based charity the HEY Smile Foundation for the event to help reuse, recycle and give a new lease of life to office equipment that the business no longer needs.

HEY Smile Foundation CEO, Andy Barber said: “We’re thrilled to be able to work with KCOM on this incredible donation to the community. Having worked with KCOM on multiple community initiatives, it was a pleasure to be asked to support this.

“In current times, charities are stretching funds further than ever before, so for charities to be able to receive these items free of charge is wonderful and enables them to spend their funds elsewhere.”

Dale Raneberg, KCOM chief executive, said he was delighted that the office equipment would be reused and repurposed by good causes across the region.

He said: “Office furniture can be expensive for small charities and groups to buy, so this is a great opportunity for them to get hold of a wide range of good quality office furniture for free, leaving them to focus on spending their resources on what’s important.

“This furniture is all in good condition and would work really well for any local organisation that needs some extra office equipment to help them get on with their daily work. We don’t want to throw perfectly good furniture away as we update our Hull offices and allowing other groups to reuse it and give it a second life would be ideal.”

To ensure Covid safety, numbers attending the Honiton Road Exchange will be limited with groups being allotted a 30 minute timeslot to visit between 12pm and 4.30pm on Tuesday, 5 October.

If groups have their own transport they will be able to collect their new furniture on the day. However, members of the KCOM team will also be available to deliver it to groups’ premises at a later date if required.

Groups are advised to book a time slot by emailing mb@heysmilefoundation.org
