Hull City Council is urging families not to send children into school or college if anyone in the household has Coronavirus symptoms.

If a parent or child has symptoms, the whole household should isolate and a PCR test should be booked for the person with symptoms. The symptoms are –

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

Helen Christmas, Hull’s Public Health lead for children and families said: “The prompt identification of the symptoms and isolation will mean that other pupils and teaching staff will not be put at risk, and this will reduce the impact on the whole school community.

“Whilst we have twice a week LFT testing in place for pupils and families who don’t have any symptoms, it is still important that where the key symptoms are displayed, that the child doesn’t come into school.

“Public health continues to work with primary and secondary schools, colleges and early years settings across the city on a daily basis, providing advice and support. Schools have very specific safety measures in place to reduce the chance of coronavirus being spread. However, staying at home if you or anyone in your household has coronavirus symptoms is one of the most important things you can do to help your school community.”
